Expensive but good

My dog has been with Trupanion for 7 years. She has multiple health problems, is on 2 medications and has had an MRI -Trupanion has helped with all that, and it is an easy process to submit a claim. My only beef is that they are so expensive. After another increase, I am up to $100 a month. Even with all her health problems, I would have been better off had I not had insurance and had instead, just tucked the money aside for “in case.” That’s what I will do next time.

I can't believe filing a medical claim with such prompt response could be this easy!

My dog was taken to the vet hospital for endoscopy This was the first time I was filing a claim for services and did not know what to expect. I was amazed at how quickly Trupanion responded to the information submitted by the hospital staff. Within minutes I knew my claim was approved and paid! Your concern for my dog's welfare in follow up correspondence was appreciated.

Pre-existing Condition?

I own a policy for roughly $800.00 annually with a $500.00 deductible. My dog has been suffering from a yeast infection in her ear since mid December 2018, have rolled up costs in excess of $1,200.00. Trupanion has only applied $21.60 to my deductible (for another issue) but noted this ear infection was a pre-existing condition - my Vet has a record of treating an ear infection in 2013, which is when I purchased the policy. So let me get this straight, she was treated for an ear infection once so any ear infection or any other condition she had prior to me purchasing the policy is considered pre-existing and not covered? They cash my check every month without fail and I'm sure there's fine print on all of this but why wouldn't they contact me when reviewing my pets records to inform me in advance so I can decide if this is really the company I want to work with. This is disgusting and I won't be recommending Trupanion to my friends or enemies.

Coverage

Payout Limits

Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.

Deductible

You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget. Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.

Age Limits

All pets under 14 years old can enroll. Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.

Waiting Period

Accidents: 5 days Illnesses: 30 days Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.

Exclusions

Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries.
