Although the customer service was fantastic and Brian was delightful the first claim that I submitted to Trupanion was denied.

Although the customer service was fantastic, and Brian was delightful, the first claim that I submitted to Trupanion was denied. My dog tore his paw, but it was a "preexisting condition." I'm not going to pay Trupanion $60/month to be denied coverage while my dog is recovering from the lifetime of abuse I saved him from.

Claims denied and now having to dispute.

I am in the process of appealing the claims as they were denied citing a pre-existing condition. Our cat had an ear infection when we rescued her (December 2018), but that had resolved within a month. The claims were submitted in October/November 2019 for a lesion she kept scratching on her head, in front of her left ear. This issue was not caused by an ear infection that had resolved 9 months earlier. Now, the frustration is trying to dispute this and provide documentation. If not successful, I will cancel the policy.

Wouldn't even cover euthanasia of $250

So - after many years of enrolling my rescue dogs to Trupanion and many many many dollars spent- having NEVER made any claim before on any dog. Even though it states that euthanasia IS covered - they said they would not cover it due to a pre-existing condition. Well for what other reason would ANY dog be put down??? its always DUE to some sort of illness or injury for the most part. The condition did not cause the euthanasia... euthanasia is always a choice by the owner to end suffering. I find it very decieving that they would say euthanasia is covered but then say not if its due to a disease or condition??? super disappointing - buyer beware. Lots of business to lose Trupanion all for a $250 euthanasia.

You were highly recommended to me...only used insurance once since I had it for Mira...payment wasn't received right away without me call..when I do call with questions your staff is very professional in answering questions one may have.

Monthly cost varies due to multiple factors including: species, breed, age at enrollment, gender, and postal code.

Coverage

One simple plan covers new injuries and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions—once the deductible is met, Trupanion pays 90% of the remaining invoice. To view a full list of inclusions and exclusions, check out our sample policy here.

Payout Limits

Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.

Deductible

You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget. Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.

Age Limits

All pets under 14 years old can enroll. Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.

Waiting Period

Accidents: 5 days Illnesses: 30 days Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.

Exclusions

Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries.
