It's great but only when it works

It's great when it works. They will try to get out of covering anything. My dog had an issue with regurgitation when he was a puppy in 2015. Regurgitation is very different from vomitting - regurgitation is passive, vomitting is active. He had an inflamed esophagus after being under anesthesia. But now, anytime my dog has ANY issue with his GI tract, they deny the claim saying it is a "pre-existing condition" because my dog had regurgitation in 2015 during the 30 day waiting period. I'm sorry Trupanion, I have to fight tooth and nail to get him covered for anything GI tract related because he had an issue with his stomach at one point and it happened to occur during the 30 day waiting period?! I work in healthcare - VOMITING (even if it was, which it was not) is not a CONDITION. It is a SYMPTOM of MILLIONS of different things. Pancreatitis? Denied because he puked when he was a puppy. Acute vomitting? Denied because he puked when he was a puppy. Ridiculous. We pay for insurance for a reason, but having to fight and get the vet to challenge the outcome for every single time I take my dog to the vet when one of the symptoms is vomitting is getting old and tiresome. Of course the issues with his GI tract now, 5 years later, are not the same ones when he was a puppy. Use some common sense trupanion and save time for yourselves, me and the vet.

Trupanion Saved My Dog

Claim was settled and paid out in 48 hours over Christmas. They were so supportive and helpful and it was easy to submit a claim for review. Trupanion saved my dog.

Satisfied customer!

This insurance is a cushion for the unpredictable, and having had many of them over the years, one can never be too careful. Our dog had pink eyes, and the medication is covered. :-)

Coverage

Payout Limits

Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.

Deductible

You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget. Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.

Age Limits

All pets under 14 years old can enroll. Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.

Waiting Period

Accidents: 5 days Illnesses: 30 days Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.

Exclusions

Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries.
