This is the worst company
This is the worst company I have ever encountered. I thought for a cause like animals they would at least be true to what they are branding which is to help owners and their pets but it is the complete opposite. I took on Trupanion a year ago because I had heard it was a good company to trust with any medical issues. 2 months ago we switched our stairs from carpet to hardwood and my dog unfortunately fell down the stairs and tore a ligament in his right leg and also needed joint repair because of this accident. My dog could not walk, he was laying down unable to move. We took him to the vet and that’s when our vet told us he needed immediate surgery. The vet put in his records that this was an accident as he fell down the stairs 3 days prior to our visit. He had surgery 2 days after that. We looked to trupanion to help with our payments though they declined our claims. Our vet reached out several times and trupanion did not care to look back and help us. We have called several times and spoken to dozens of people on their team but no one seemed to want to take a look they only told us it was not being covered by insurance. We have now contacted them to cancel our insurance with them though there are more ridiculous steps and procedures. Trupanion continues to reject our request to cover payments for my dogs surgery and everything that came along with that. Already I must worry about the fact that my dog still cannot walk and the vet says he will not properly walk for another couple of months and on top of this so must worry about this stupid insurance company and all the money we have put into it for no reason at all. Please do not sign up with this insurance company they will not help you, only will take money from you and refuse to pay for any medical issues the pet will come to have.

Monthly cost varies due to multiple factors including: species, breed, age at enrollment, gender, and postal code.
Coverage
One simple plan covers new injuries and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions—once the deductible is met, Trupanion pays 90% of the remaining invoice.

Payout Limits
Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.
Deductible
You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget.
Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.
Age Limits
All pets under 14 years old can enroll.
Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.
Waiting Period
Accidents: 5 days
Illnesses: 30 days
Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.
Exclusions
Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries. That means we don’t cover “predictable” care costs that you can plan ahead for, like:
Examination fees
Wellness and preventive care
Elective, or cosmetic procedures
Sales tax, where applicable
