Depending on the plan Trupanion covers up to 90% of eligible expenses, has unlimited payouts-always, and can pay your vet bill, within seconds, at time of checkout, so all you pay is your portion (anything not covered by Trupanion). They have transformed the way pet insurance handles claims by eliminating the reimbursement process.

Trupanion is truly amazing
Trupanion is truly amazing. I am speechless at how grateful I am for them as they’ve saved me BIG time during the roughest patch. So willing to help me and my pup, and get a diagnosis to what’s going on with her. She is my best friend so without them this wouldn’t be possible financially

Trupanion is your typical insurance…
Trupanion is your typical insurance company always trying to get out of paying. I have been with them 1.5 years now and am so disappointed.
Our dog has had 2 episodes of vomiting and not eating or drinking. We saw the vet for both these episodes. Our dog was prescribed the same medication. I am in the medical field myself and didn't anticipate any issues with having to pay deductible again. One visit was listed as vomiting with working diagnosis of non specific gastroenteritis. The second visit was listed as non specific gastroenteritis. Trupanion deemed this 2 different conditions! I did my due diligence and appealed and sent in the medical records and had vet speak to them. I even have a message from vet stating insurance should be fine, he spoke to them. To my dismay they have declined the appeal as they found inflamed GI tract in the records of the 2nd claim. This is outrageous and completely taking advantage of clients. I feel sorry for individuals with no medical knowledge as you are probably being scammed. I would STEER CLEAR of this company as their business is not about helping clients, but about profit and trying to get out of paying claims.

Monthly cost varies due to multiple factors including: species, breed, age at enrollment, gender, and postal code.
Coverage
One simple plan covers new injuries and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions—once the deductible is met, Trupanion pays 90% of the remaining invoice.

Payout Limits
Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.
Deductible
You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget.
Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.
Age Limits
All pets under 14 years old can enroll.
Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.
Waiting Period
Accidents: 5 days
Illnesses: 30 days
Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.
Exclusions
Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries. That means we don’t cover “predictable” care costs that you can plan ahead for, like:
Examination fees
Wellness and preventive care
Elective, or cosmetic procedures
Sales tax, where applicable
