Confusing, lack of communication and long wait times
Seriously so annoyed. My cat had to have tests done so I submitted the invoice through the app. A week goes by and I didn’t even know if they had received it because I heard nothing. I called and they told me the app doesn’t really work it takes a long time to have claims processed. Submit it through email and it can take up to 10 days to process so I did that. I received an email back saying we received your claim and we will take care of it from here. 10 days have passed I still haven’t heard anything. I look online and it says there information missing, I didn’t know I needed to fill out a form because the stupid app said nothing about it. They could have at least emailed me saying that I need to fill out a form so now will it take another 10 days to process?? It’s one thing if it will take time to process even though I already sent her previous vet info in. But to not have any communication when they knew I was missing information? Not a good first experience I was expecting more. Now if I go to a different insurance company this condition will not be covered.
Trupanion I need you to read this. I almost left you because of bad customer service but stayed because of your one employee.
Over a month ago I had my policy renewal and the premium increased by 33% over the last year, but I had never made a claim. I called their customer service line to get an answer but waited a while to get hold of someone, I event tried their online chat but couldn't get connected at all. Situation was terribly frustrating because when I setup my account the call got answered within a second. I also saw reviews from people complaining about Trupanion so Immediately I started to question Trupanion's reliability.
When the call finally got answered, the representative was next level impatient, careless, and unprofessional, so I had the thought of canceling the policy with Trupanion right away. However, that call was to figure out the reason of increase not for cancelation I didn't have a new insurance company lined up, so I said I will call back. I left a 1 star review on here and got a really passive response from Trupanion, where a image of scammer trupanion was completely built in my head.
I found out Fetch was offering the same policy on paper for half the price, so I called Trupanion again this evening to actually cancel my policy. Luckly, Johanna Abell answered my call within second with an warm and happy attitude. Johnna explained to me about the increase, explained about the things customers mentioned in those bad comments, and explained to me the difference of Trupanion and Fetch. Without asking, Johanna sincerely apologized for someone else's terrible customer service.
I had my card number and everything ready on Fetch's website while I was on the call with Johanna, but she changed my mind with straight facts within a second before I submitted the policy with Fetch.
I honestly understand the increase because of the inflation on everything, but I was looking for an answer to why it was 33% increase and what does it do different than other insurance company. Johanna also has changed how I looked at Trupanion as a scammer; she helped Trupanion to regain my trust.
Johanna said she will look into the situation and I got her direct contact in my email. Because of such a proactive employee I decided to stay with trupanion without hesitation.

Deductible
You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget.
Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.
Age Limits
All pets under 14 years old can enroll.
Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.
Waiting Period
Accidents: 5 days
Illnesses: 30 days
Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.
Exclusions
