Trupanion pets lead longer happier lives.1 Pets insured with Trupanion lived longer than pets without Trupanion because pet parents didn’t have to worry about the cost of the care their pet needed. Depending on the plan Trupanion covers up to 90% of eligible expenses, has unlimited payouts-always, and can pay your vet bill, within seconds, at time of checkout, so all you pay is your portion (anything not covered by Trupanion). They have transformed the way pet insurance handles claims by eliminating the reimbursement process.

BEWARE - DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY
We were approved for Trupanion Insurance since our vet gave our puppy a clean bill of health after his first vet visit (needles). Yet when we had our first diarrhea issue and put in an insurance claim just over a month after being enrolled, TruPanion somehow argued diarrhea was a “pre existing issue” and because of that, will never cover anything that involves diarrhea again. Even with our puppy being given a clean bill of health which is why we were offered a free month trial with them through our vet after our first vet visit for puppy vaccinations in the first
place. Our vet even submitted a claim, fixed his notes to clearly indicate it was not pre existing, and they continued to deny it. What a headache this was. Diarrhea is only a small issue I wouldn’t even want to have to deal with the headaches and stress of a larger, more severe issues. Diarrhea is also a very common side affect/symptom of many other injuries or illnesses so given Trupanion’s incorrect, undocumented statement of diarrhea being “pre existing”, we opted out of this right away. Until we find another pet insurance to go with, we have been putting aside $50 a month in monthly interest savings account instead of wasting it away with Trupanion when they will just argue every single claim as pre existing and never cover any bill. This is with a 3 month old puppy all because he drank some salt water, I cannot imagine any older dog! This is very unfortunate given we really wanted to have our guy protected with insurance, and with this terrible experience he no longer is currently.

Monthly Cost
Monthly cost varies due to multiple factors including: species, breed, age at enrollment, gender, and postal code.
Coverage
One simple plan covers new injuries and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions—once the deductible is met, Trupanion pays 90% of the remaining invoice.

Payout Limits
Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.
Deductible
You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget.
Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.
Age Limits
All pets under 14 years old can enroll.
Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.
Waiting Period
Accidents: 5 days
Illnesses: 30 days
Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.
Exclusions
Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries. That means we don’t cover “predictable” care costs that you can plan ahead for, like:
Examination fees
Wellness and preventive care
Elective, or cosmetic procedures
Sales tax, where applicable
