Good, easy to use coverage but more expensive than competitors

While I appreciate the 90% coverage and the direct payment to the vet, the enrolment fee seems silly. None of the other insurances I was looking at had that fee but they only covered 80% and wouldn’t do direct payment. With having a German shepherd and knowing that they’re way more likely to have elbow and hip problems, I need the comfort of knowing that I will be able to afford treatment if any such problems arise.

Fast approval! No hassles. Very happy.

Our Boston started limping. Took her to the vet for x rays and an exam. Found she needed surgery for her patellas and a femur osteotomy. The vet put in a pre approval and a claim for that day. Claim went through fast and we were refunded 90% what we paid the vet minus the exam fee and the deductible just as stated by trupanion. Surgery was done a few days ago and was more involved then the vet figured, required the tplo also. All was covered and within a few days trupanion has paid the vet 90% of the before tax bill (deductible was already paid for at the first visit) Trupanion sticks to their word. Once your deductible is paid, rest assured they will pay for 90% before taxes and not try to weasel out! THANK YOU TRUPANION!

Coverage

Payout Limits

Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.

Deductible

You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget. Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.

Age Limits

All pets under 14 years old can enroll. Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.

Waiting Period

Accidents: 5 days Illnesses: 30 days Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.

Exclusions

Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries. That means we don’t cover “predictable” care costs that you can plan ahead for, like: Examination fees Wellness and preventive care Elective, or cosmetic procedures Sales tax, where applicable Like all pet insurance providers, Trupanion does not cover pre-existing conditions.
