My SPCA Special Little Girl. My 8 year female spayed dog Raven was…

My 8 year female spayed dog Raven was rushed into a speciality vet clinic in St. John’s, Newfoundland. I was told by her vet to take her to the speciality clinic right away because her symptoms that I observed and described over the phone was an emergency. She had a rapid heart rate, white gums and was very tired. She was diagnosed within the hour with autoimmune hemolytic anemia. Normal hemoglobin in dogs is anywhere from 35-55%, Raven’s hemoglobin was 8%. I was told the she would fit into 3 equations. 1/3 would not make it out of hospital. 1/3 would make it out of hospital but relapse. 1/3 would do okay after treatment and probably lifetime of steroids to stop the immune system from killing the red blood cells. Trupanion was notified right away and within minutes I was getting emails that they would review her diagnosis and get back to me. I was getting emails throughout the day from Trupanion that everything was being taken care of minus my deductible. I immediately felt as they were part of the team taking care of Raven and myself. After two blood transfusions, exrays, ultrasounds and many blood checks, Raven was allowed to go home after spending 5 days at the clinic. Her hemoglobin is getting back to normal and will have to be checked again next week. Her appetite with an appetite stimulant is doing fabulously after having anorexia for days before being seen by the vet and she is getting 2 different steroids and antibiotics for a small cough she got while being treated. I’m cautiously optimistic about Raven’s future and with Trupanion insurance, I know if I have to let her go, it won’t because of her bills getting out of hand.

Coverage

Payout Limits

Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.

Deductible

You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget. Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.

Age Limits

All pets under 14 years old can enroll. Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.

Waiting Period

Accidents: 5 days Illnesses: 30 days Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.

Exclusions

Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries.
