Pre existing condition

In a nutshell, everything is a pre existing condition. Prior to getting insurance my cat was treated for gingivitis. In 3 subsequent years while insured, and with annual wellness exams, no problem. My cat recently had surgery for tooth extractions, unrelated to 3 years ago. Insurance covered the problem, but refused to reimburse me, claiming pre existing condition. Many other similar reviews posted related to fictitious pre existing conditions. 3 years premiums paid, 1 claim after 3 years, no payment. Unethical practices, sweet as pie on the phone, just don't expect your policy to be honoured.

We found out the hard way how important…

We found out the hard way how important pet insurance is and how lucky we are to have gone with Trupanion. Once when our girl Macie came home from a boarder with an infected leg injury, and then twice more when our boy Chewie was diagnosed with degenerative heart valve and joint pain issues. We have saved thousands in vet bills, as Trupanion pays for all the diagnostics and medicine we need for our kids. There was also an option to extend the coverage for alternative therapies as well, which we wish we had taken so we could have afforded hydrotherapy for our Chewie. I believe that at the time we signed up the rates were comparable with competitors and we knew exactly what we were signing up for. No surprises! Trupanion can work with your veterinarian as well so they can make reimbursement a breeze. Otherwise we get reimbursed within days. The customer service and level of communication has been excellent. Staff is knowledgeable, professional and caring.

Monthly Cost

Monthly cost varies due to multiple factors including: species, breed, age at enrollment, gender, and postal code.

Coverage

One simple plan covers new injuries and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions—once the deductible is met, Trupanion pays 90% of the remaining invoice. To view a full list of inclusions and exclusions, check out our sample policy here.

Payout Limits

Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.

Deductible

You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget. Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.

Age Limits

All pets under 14 years old can enroll. Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.

Waiting Period

Accidents: 5 days Illnesses: 30 days Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.

Exclusions

Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries. That means we don’t cover “predictable” care costs that you can plan ahead for, like: Examination fees Wellness and preventive care Elective, or cosmetic procedures Sales tax, where applicable Like all pet insurance providers, Trupanion does not cover pre-existing conditions.
