It was great until they wanted to…

It was great until they wanted to nearly double my monthly premiums for my cat and two dogs when I moved 15 minutes across the city and refused to budge even a cent. Was a customer for three years and would never have given a thought to looking for a new insurer for the lifetime of these pets or any future ones. Throughout my attempts to remain a customer, they never gave me anything more than a stock answer that they take geographic location into consideration as a factor. Well, other insurers don't care which of the two postal codes I live in. I can no longer recommend this service to anyone because I sure wouldn't want a friend to also move 15 minutes across a city and regret having not gone with an insurer who doesn't penalize you improving your living situation. Edit: Trupanion has helpfully responded to me here with the same stock answer they've given me on two phone calls and through their online team. They've refused to budge on every occasion, and made no attempt to keep me when I called a third time to cancel.

Claims are handled quickly. To date I have not had to dispute any. Some things are not covered but I knew that from the start.

Monthly Cost

Monthly cost varies due to multiple factors including: species, breed, age at enrollment, gender, and postal code.

Coverage

One simple plan covers new injuries and illnesses, hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions—once the deductible is met, Trupanion pays 90% of the remaining invoice. To view a full list of inclusions and exclusions, check out our sample policy here.

Payout Limits

Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.

Deductible

You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget. Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.

Age Limits

All pets under 14 years old can enroll. Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.

Waiting Period

Accidents: 5 days Illnesses: 30 days Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.

Exclusions

Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries.
