The Adventures of a Little Orange Dog
.I rescued my Golden Retriever, Jackson, from a hell hole in Mississippi when he was approx 10-13 mo old. He was emaciated and had EXTREME seperation anxiety. We quickly became best Pals...
We began to overcome a lot of his issues with Time, Love and Patience.... but his anxiety would rear its ugly head, usually in the form of eating things that he shouldnt, or garbage diving the second I turned my attention away. Noticing these tendencies, I called Trupanion and became a client.
About 8 months into our lives together, Jackson consumed a corn-cob, which he scrounged up somewhere along the line (we have no idea where)... which was then got stuck in his small intestine. We were floored when the emergency vet said, it'll cost about $7,000 -- which credit card will you be putting this on?
I called trupanion in a panic. The woman on the other end of the line was empathetic, caring, and had a tone of voice which made me believe they were 100% willing to help us.
When Jackson was released post - surgery... we sent the bill, and they refunded us BEFORE the charges even hit our card. It made saying yes to the surgery so much easier.
A few months later -- Jackson was back in the hospital for a high fever. It took months of testing to come to the diagnosis that he had "auto-immune disease". A lifelong disease which would require extremely expensive medication for the rest of his life. There trupanion was again... by our side, re-assuring us that they wouldnt drop us because of this.
3 weeks ago, with tears in my eyes.... Jackson was back in the hospital again. I had taken so many precautions to keep him safe... yet some how, he had found another corn-cob... and this time it had not only torn open his previous surgical site... it had perferated in 3 other places, and he needed a full bowel resection, or he would be dead within a day.
Now at this point I had to say to myself... do I need to put him down... Trupanion won't cover him for this... AGAIN.
I was so wrong. The same empathy... this time with the re-assurance that, "This is what we're here for... for dogs like Jackson. We've got your back."
Jackson now sports a heavy duty muzzle when he leaves the house, but is still here today thanks to the skill of his surgeons... and thanks to the support of Trupanion.
I wish I could be more articulate, to express my thanks... Doing business with them has been one of the best decisions I ever made.
