Not a great experience

Not a great experience. 5 yr old gsp female. Very healthy only been to the vet for annuals. Had a small spot on head losing hair, took her in after watching it couple weeks. No mites or mange just prescribed topical ointment. Cost was reasonable $189. Submitted claim to Spot. Ended up just canceling the ins immediately. Spot was horrible, csr very nice on phone but a simple claim (and we weren't expecting much for it) was 2 calls to spot, 2 calls to our vet and a third call to spot to just say. This is enough. A very real inquisition that required 2 full yrs of vet records, provided twice. Imagine a bigger vet bill🙄

I joined Spot insurance last year

I joined Spot insurance last year. prior to that I had one which was costing me so much and the rate went up each year that my dog got older . I did some research and decided to get the accident insurance with gold benefits so it would help pay for some of the routine vaccinations and checkups . They were quick to reimburse me (within about 3 days). I recommend this type of your dog is basically healthy but you just want something for “just in case” of an accident. it gives me peace of mind.

Avoid at all costs

Avoid at all costs. They will not pay. Spot was happy to take my money, but when I filed my first legitimate claim, they denied it based on a flimsy "pre-existing condition" excuse. Even after I provided a signed letter from my vet proving the condition was new and not pre-existing, they refused to help. Their business model seems to be collecting premiums and denying claims. Do not trust them with your pet's health.

Monthly Cost

Rates start at: $10 (for accident only), $16 (Complete Coverage). plan costs vary based on plan type, pet breed, age, and location.

Coverage

The pay-out amount is based on the actual vet bill, at a rate pre-selected by the customer: 90%, 80% or 70%

Payout Limits

Annual limits can be set by the customer, ranging from $2,500 to $20,000, including an unlimited option. No lifetime limits.

Deductible

$100, $250, $500, $750 or $1000 annually.

Age Limits

No upper age limits. Pets must be at least 8 weeks old to enroll.

Waiting Period

There are no waiting periods for preventive care. Coverage begins 14 days after date listed on policy for accidents, illnesses, and knee/ligament conditions.

Exclusions

Pre-existing conditions, cosmetic procedures and breeding costs are not covered. Spot Pet Insurance has two Preventive Care plans that can be added to help cover a pet’s wellness care, including annual exams, vaccinations, tests, dental cleanings and flea/heartworm preventive. Preventive Care plans reimburse up to a set amount for each listed treatment. If your pet exhibited symptoms of a knee and ligament condition at any time, prior to enrollment or during a waiting period, all ligament and knee conditions will be excluded. Ligament and Knee are conditions involving a ligament, patella, meniscus or soft tissue disorder of the knee.
