claim not accepted

I inherited three dogs in December 2020 and February 2021: German Shepherds 7, 6 and 1 year old. I placed in insurance in the first 2 but I placed the wrong name in the 6 years old. I called Pumpkin to ask to change the name of the dog as she needed more the insurance than the one year old. However, they asked me to cancel the insurance in the 1 year old and place a new one in the 6 years old. She got an infection on her gums later and I took her to the vet and they did extractions in May. Now they will not honor the claim because they said that it was a pre -existing condition. I do not understand why the insurance did not allow me to rectify the name of the dog, and I realize this in a couple of weeks.

Breach of contract

My policy specifically stated in two different locations that I could pay annually to avoid the monthly service fees. However, when I called, I was told that they see that option in my contract but they cannot accept annual payments. If they can’t comply with contract terms for something as simple as payment. I cannot trust they will comply with other terms. Now they are trying to short my refund.

Pumpkin experience has been purrfect

Signed my dog and cat up for Pumpkin and really appreciate that there is finally a pet insurance company that makes preventive meds and care a priority. Pumpkin reached out to my vet to take care of getting their Rx, and both my pets got their flea and tick meds delivered within a week, complete with a personalized note and toy for each of them. From the signing up online to getting their first box in the mail- and even having their care team proactively reach out to make sure they had the info they needed for a speedy refund - everything about the Pumpkin experience has been purrfect.

Monthly Cost

Plans start as low as $30 per month. Prices vary based on plan type, pet breed, age, and location.

Coverage

Every pet is covered by a 90% reimbursement rate to make it easier to say “yes” to the best possible care.

Payout Limits

Annual limits of $10,000 or $20,000 for dogs and $7,000 or $15,000 for cats.

Deductible

3 options: $100, $250, and $500

Age Limits

No upper age limits. Pets must be at least 8 weeks old to enroll.

Waiting Period

Insurance coverage begins 14 days after your policy begins for all conditions, including knee/ligament issues where some other policies make you wait 6 months for coverage. No waiting periods for preventive care (in fact, depending on when you received the care, you may be eligible for a retroactive refund).

Exclusions

Pre-existing conditions are not covered. However, unlike some other pet insurances, Pumpkin’s plan covers some curable pre-existing conditions if symptom-free for 180 days, with the exception of knee and ligament conditions. For full terms, visit pumpkin.care/insurancepolicy.
