Used to be good, not so much anymore

Customer service is friendly and efficient but other than that I would no longer recommend Pets Best to anyone who asks my opinion on pet insurance. The premiums go up exponentially every year. It is not just modest increases with age as one would expect. They tell me it's because my pets are older... they are not puppies anymore but at 5 years old (when the premiums really started to increase) I would not call that elderly. It's almost not affordable anymore even with modifying my policy every year to cover less and less. Claims used to be fairly quick and easy (submit online, hear back within 2-3 weeks). However, now it is taking months to get a claim processed. I am not sure what happened with this company but I wish I had researched more before signing on with them. Now I'm "stuck" with them because any condition my pets have now will be considered a pre-existing condition and won't be covered.

Disappointed

I did a bunch of research and really thought that I had found the perfect insurance match. Before I made my first payment however, I thought I would read some of the reviews from other pet owners. It sounds like Pets Best USED to be a top rated insurance, but due to understaffing that is no longer the case. I know that when you get a great reputation and have a huge growth spurt that growing pains can occur, however based on the reviews it has been more than 6 months since you have begin having problems. Reimbursements are taking longer and more and more claims are being denied. It does not sound like anything is going to change in the forseable future, so for that reason I decided to go to another company. I will check back in 6 months to see if things have improved.

I have had Pets Best insurance for the dog for the past two years. I could not find a better insurance than Pets Best. They provide services above and beyond the insurance. They respond promptly to claims, and their customer service is outstanding.

Although I wish health insurance for pet's covered more, ie. just because my dog had one ear infection, if he ever gets another one, it isn't covered, I do like the ease of using this as well as the response rate once a claim is submitted.

I have Pets Best for both of my cats…

I have Pets Best for both of my cats and I love having it. It was nice being able to customize the plan to what I wanted, and with my plan, I pay under $40 a month (TOTAL!). It's nice knowing there's this safety net to catch us with financials so I don't hesitate to provide the best care for my furbabies. Last year my cat had bladder stones and with all her tests and the actual surgical removal, it was almost $5,000 but with Pets Best, 90% of that was covered after meeting the deductible and not too much later, the checks came in the mail for that to pay off the credit card bills. And on top of that, the rate stayed the same once it was time to renew for the next year. I am always recommending Pets Best to everyone I meet who has a pet because it's such a relief to have.

Monthly Cost

$6 and up, depending on your chosen plan.

Coverage

Accident and Illness plans with optional reimbursement levels of 70%, 80%, or 90% after the deductible. Flat Rate Accident coverage for $9/month for dogs and $6/month for cats. (Available in most states). Two optional Wellness plans to cover routine care. 24/7 Pet Helpline, powered by whiskerDocs is included on all policies. The pay-out amount is based on your actual vet bill. Reimbursements are sent directly to CareCredit credit card when chosen as your default reimbursement method. Choose to have your eligible claim payment reimbursed directly back to your CareCredit card.

Payout Limits

$5000 -Unlimited annual limit, depending on your chosen plan. Unlimited lifetime limits.

Deductible

$50 – $1,000 annually.

Age Limits

Pet must be at least 7 weeks old to enroll. Pets Best does not restrict coverage or availability for older pets.

Waiting Period

A waiting period refers to the amount of time after enrolling before your pet is eligible for coverage. Waiting periods vary by the type of coverage and start on the effective date of your policy. Once met, waiting periods are waived for continuous, uninterrupted policy renewals. Pets Best offers some of the shortest waiting periods in the industry following the policy effective date. Pre-existing conditions are not covered. Elective and preventive procedures are not covered.
