Nationwide | Pet Insurance Review

On Tues., 2/28, I spoke with Sharria after having sooooo many problems with your website and especially even getting to speak with anyone for at least two weeks. She was incredibly knowledgable, patient, and was able to answer ALL of my questions. Please give her a BIG shout out and a great review. Thank you Sharria.

On Friday 2/24 a representative encouraged me to submit an invoice even if some items aren't covered. On Saturday 2/25 Angela was very helpful explaining that my claim (submitted today) likely won't register on the website till Monday

We have used Nationwide pet insurance for decades (formerly VPI). As our dog ages (now 9.5 years), our premiums have increased dramatically. However, given the breed (Doberman) and breed-related health challenges, this is an expense we happily pay. We paid off our annual premium on 2/22/23 and we were double charged $1295.00. I called Nationwide and they agreed and quite nonchalantly said, "oh this should drop off in 3-5 business days and further said "it's in the cloud and there is nothing we can do about it." ABSOLUTELY ABYSMAL CUSTOMER SERVICE. ***. Update *** I received the following reply from Nationwide and appreciate their prompt review. "I do see that we are authorizing one payment in the amount of $1295.91 and holding the same funds until the initial payment processes successfully. Sadly, when a payment is over a certain amount, the Banks auto hold the funds to ensure the payment processes." Nevertheless, I wish Nationwide would publicly state the reason behind this practice. It seems they are able to use customer funds with no regard to any inconvenience caused by significant holds, i.e. over $1K - this is, IMO, a terrible business model.

I only received this pet insurance because it was offered through my job, and costs would be taken out of my paycheck (seemed simple enough). However, little did I know what a nightmare this insurance would be! Sadly I had to euthanize my cat due to cancer, and they made the process of being reimbursed for her euthanasia/cremation a nightmare. Putting a pet to sleep is difficult enough, but having to drag out claims with insurance made it so much worse. They don’t honor policies and clearly do not care about pets/pet owners. It is quite sad how little they care. Thankfully, I canceled policies for my two dogs who are still living, and going to transfer to a much better company!

I love the coverage my dogs have, and I'm honestly grateful for Nationwide pet insurance. Without it, I wouldn't have been able to give my dog the help he needed, to treat his cancer. It's sad, I'm heartbroken, but I got more time with him than I would've had if I didn't have this coverage. We love our pets, they'll come and go throughout our lifetime. There are two things I'll continue to do. 1) I'll continue to share my life with new fur babies. 2) I'll will never hesitate to use Nationwide pet insurance. I would suggest doing your homework and understand the types of coverage they offer. If you're unsure of things. Speak with a rep. Trust me
