Took almost 4 months to be reimbursed
Purchased this insurance through my employer, and it includes wellness. Had no problem getting quickly reimbursed for puppy visits in the beginning. When my puppy was 4 months old, our vet suggested that she have a preventative surgery on her hips. We contacted Nationwide prior to the surgery to ensure that this is something that would be covered. They took a day to research the procedure, cautioned us that they don't to pre-approvals but because its preventative and will be performed by a licensed vet, that they could see no issues with reimbursement. We submitted a claim for the surgery in June and did not receive payment until OCTOBER. Yes, that's a 4 month span. 30 days after submitting the claim, they responded that medical records were needed in order to determine if the expense is reimbursable, which we promptly provided. 60 days after submitting the claim, they responded that they needed more time to review her records (remember, she's a puppy and had only a few visits prior to this surgery! what is there to review?!) I proceeded to contact the customer service line multiple times AND the agent which sold me the policy and nobody could give me any timeframe on when a determination would be made and when I could expect to be reimbursed. They're just apparently "really busy" and can't process claims for 4 months, so you're probably better off getting insurance through another provider who can actually take 5 minutes to review a puppy's medical records. These people are a complete joke. Nationwide, you're welcome for the interest-free 4 month loan of thousands of my dollars.
