Simon's Emergency Subcutaneous Ureteral Bypass Surgery
Nationwide Pet Insurance is amazing. My 4 year old cat, Simon, had a ureteral obstruction on 4/16/19. He was hospitalized for six days total due to his obstruction and the resulting surgery and he was seen at three different hospitals including a specialty clinic and ER. Simon had a $7,500 Subcutaneous Ureteral Bypass (S.U.B.) system surgically placed at a specialty clinic in Seattle (3 hours away from where I live) after 4 days of work up. The total expenses were ~$14,000 and I only ended up paying $1,600 out-of-pocket. Nationwide saved Simon's life. This surgery is not done very often because usually pet owners cannot afford it. The doctor who did Simon's surgery is only one out of a few in the state that can and said he only does roughly 12 a year. I am so thankful I have pet insurance because I was able to help my kitty. I am thankful for Dr. Patete, Dr. Stockdale, Dr. Seekins, and Dr. Nash who saved him and for each of their teams that gave him so much love and provided the utmost care to him and me. I would also like to add that my claims were processed in less than the 30 days that they say it could take and I was reimbursed in a very timely manner. Thank you Nationwide for everything! Simon is so special to me and I am so happy he is healthy and happy again.
