First time Pet Insurance participant..... extremely happy!

I had always been skeptical of Pet insurance, however having lost a pet in 2018 where there were very high treatment costs involved I decided to try it out. I cannot express enough how much the ease of mind that I now have knowing that we have this coverage. The process to file a claim is simple and the claim turn around is quick and seamless!

Pet Insurance vs Human Insurance

I've never had pet insurance before, but have been pleasantly surprised. Submitting the claims is easy.....understanding the EOBs is easy and the reimbursements are quick. Why can't human health insurance be this simple????

It was bumpy in the beginning but now it seems fine

We got Nationwide's pet insurance with Wellness for our puppy. When we had our first major claim (i.e., we completed the $250 annual deductible) almost 6 months after our policy started, we were told that Nationwide would not cover the claim because it was a pre-existing condition. Under our policy, it specifically said no pre-existing conditions were identified. Nationwide still denied the claim and tried to change our policy once they were aware we never received a policy with pre-existing conditions to one that had pre-existing conditions. Their definition of what constitutes a pre-existing condition, however, is flabbergasting. I asked a representative that if a dog had eaten a sock and needed surgery but had a gastro-intestine pre-existing condition, would Nationwide cover the costs. They said no because it was related to stomach issues. It wasn't until we said we would be bringing a lawyer to any further discussions that they backed down. I think it also helped with the fact that their underwriting team refused to write the new policy. Since that issue was resolved, we've been very happy with the pet insurance through Nationwide. Filing claims is still difficult though. We downloaded the app that Nationwide said to use and when we upload all of the required information, they still ask us, almost every single time, that they still need the medical records from our vet. That takes a while to get every single time so the claims are always delayed. Aside from these, we are very happy to have the best insurance possible for our girl. Nationwide provides us with peace of mind knowing that if she needs anything, we don't have to choose between her life and whether we're able to afford it. Overall, very grateful.
