Be very careful

Be very careful with this pet insurance. My claim was denied because my cat showed symptoms (lethargy, fever) during the waiting period—even though there was no confirmed diagnosis at the time. They consider symptoms alone enough to classify a condition as pre-existing, which can exclude even diagnostic testing. I went through the full appeal process, including a letter from my veterinarian and a complaint to the Texas Department of Insurance, and the denial was still upheld based on policy language. Make sure you fully understand how waiting periods and pre-existing conditions are defined before choosing this policy.

It has helped

It has helped, once the deductible was met, to be able to afford the vet visits on illnesses. But I wish I knew before hand that they had special coverage for vaccinations or neutering, because all that was not covered.

BOGUS PREEXISTING CONDITIONS

We have 2 policies right now with MetLife pet insurance. Our first policy with our 5 yr old dog has had no issue to speak of. A few denials that weren’t denials but with a call to customer services it’s fixed no problems. But our newest policy with our new puppy has been very disappointing so we are changing her to a different company. As soon as we got the puppy the breeder said they she gets sick in the car so when I took her to her first vet appt we hadn’t started her insurance yet. In a conversation with the vet I mentioned that the breeder said she may get carsick and we had a long road trip planned for a few months later. So the vet said right before the trip they could giver her cerenia to help with that. Fast forward 2 months, she is now covered with MetLife and thy prescribed her cerenia just in case. When I submitted it to MetLife they denied it for a preexisting condition. I called them and they said it’s because I mentioned it to the Dr in passing and now that’s it’s in her notes she has a preexisting condition. So now every time she is prescribed cerenia for anything they will not cover it and possible other stomach issues because they have her with a colitis preexisting condition for possible car sickness. The vet sent a letter explathe conversation and they still Denied it and she’s stuck with this “preexisting condition” she doesn’t even have. She never needed the cerenia because she was fine. The vet was shocked. He said he’s never heard of “motion sickness” listed as a colitis preexisting condition! It’s very disappointing and frustrating. And you can’t speak to actual people responsible for coming up with these “preexisting conditions” of course. It just is was it is. Typical insurance BS!
