They WILL increase your rates when you have a claim...

For the first six years of the policy, everything was fine. They took our money and we never contacted them. The price seemed competitive, and we were happy to have the certainty that Chaco would be covered if he got into any trouble. The, one day he was attacked by an unleashed pit bull on a local trail (I love pit bulls, they can be such sweet dogs, but unleashed on a local trail and pit bull is never a good idea). My dog lost half his ear and ended up having four visits to doc to get treated, stitches, stitches reinforced, and stitches removed. First, you should know that Healthy Paws will not cover the visit charge for any of these visits, even if they are emergency or follow up. They only cover the costs beyond the visit charge and after your deductible. In the end, they covered about $500 or so, which is a little more than our annual premium which we had been paying for six years. A few months later, our premium was nearly doubled, despite Healthy Paws claiming they never increase rates due to a claim. We decided to pay the increase. This year, they increased another 50% and now want us to pay close to $100 a month for a just turned eight year old dog that has never had a claim other than this one small $500 claim. Buyer beware. This company is not interested in the health and wellness of your dog, they only want your money.

Thankful for Healthy Paws

When we adopted our rescue Skeeter I knew I wanted pet insurance. Prior to adopting Skeeter, we had adopted an English Bulldog and we passed up health insurance on him because of the cost. That was a huge mistake. There is nothing worse than having to make hard choices about your pets health because of the cost. Of course we always did what was necessary to provide our Bull Dog with the care he needed but it hurt us financially. For Skeeter I researched almost all of the pet insurance plans out there and after reading Healthy Paws policy, we decided that was the right plan for us. For the first 1.5 years our minimal claims never met the deductible, so there was no payment to us. Then this past Sunday my dog became very ill and was vomiting blood and passing blood through his feces. He’s had some digestive issues in the past but nothing like this. Monday I called my vet and they recommended the ER and advised he may need an x-ray or ultrasound. That night I filed a claim and today (2 days later) I received an email that the claim was approved. What a relief to have Healthy Paws there for us in such a scary time. Many of the negative complaints on here are no fault of Healthy Paws but rather the policy owner not understanding the policy. As the consumer it is your responsibility to know and understand what you are buying. I thoroughly read the policy and all the information related to how to file a claim and have never had an issue. The major items to outline is that on your first claim you must send in a complete history of your pets medical records so they can determine pre-existing conditions. Exams are not covered and you have to meet the deductible before benefits are paid. One you meet the deductible it’s a coinsurance percentage that you chose upon purchase. Hope this helps! Thank you Healthy Paws!

Thank you Healthy Paws

I have a rescue dog who unfortunately is an "orthopedic nightmare", as his surgeon calls it... He is truly a family member to us and we would do whatever it takes to keep him well but he has now had 4!! major orthopedic surgeries. Without Healthy Paws this would be extremely difficult for my family to handle financially. The Healthy Paws team is efficient, makes it very easy for us to work with them and benefits are extraordinary. They also treat us with patience and kindness whenever we deal with them. We are truly grateful to have this insurance and will never have a pet without it.

Fantastic customer service

Claims are simple to submit and handled quickly. I have received several emails from customer service checking on my pet after a claim was filed.

Many years ago I was seeking to change…

Many years ago I was seeking to change Pet Insurance Companies. I checked out Healthy Paws and have been so pleased with the decision to sign our sweet boxer up for coverage. She has not required frequent need for care coverage despite being diagnosed with Megaesophagus. She has had a malignant tumor removed and just recently blew out her ACL requiring joint surgery. Despite age 9 being on the older side for a boxer, she remains very active. The claims process couldn't be more simple! I used my phone app, took a picture of the invoice and sent it. Not thinking I would be placing a claim this year I had not sent a few earlier invoices re a few meds. All were accepted and coverage paid promptly! I could not be happier with service and payment.
