AKC | Pet Insurance Review

I took out this plan when my AKC registered puppy was 4 months old.They have paid for 4 knee surgeries, one tooth extraction and eye cyst removal.They have been polite on the phone as well as timely in their payments.Better than VPI I used to have with my other dog.

I know have Petplan Insurance for my new dog, with the AKC pet insurance plan, I had to euthanize my 8 month old Rottweiler because they said they wouldn`t pay for his hip surgeries because it was hereditary. Petplan is one of the few insurances that covers hip dysplasia operations and my little guy would have been alive, now.

VPI - Veterinary Pet Insurance is much easier to deal with in terms of claim forms. They are slightly less expensive than what the other companies quoted me. I left Pet Partners for VPI and I am happy I did.

I had VIP with our other dogs and didnt like them. So when we got the new pups thought I would give the AKC plan a try.We had one disagreement and they wouldn't cover her upset stomach from eating rocks. They said the illness was with in the 30 day waiting period. I resemitted and told them it wasn't a illness it was a accident she ate rocks. At that point they reconsidered and payed the claim. So far they have been really good paying claims. We got the "wellness plan" that covers preventive meds and teeth cleaning which most plans don't cover. I should have signed up sooner and got the Wellness plus plan and they would have paid the spay and neuter procedures.

We have had the AKC policy on both of our dogs for about a year now. We have had no problem submitting claims or receiving payment in a timely fashion. They have paid all claims appropriatly. Our only disappointment was to find that they did not cover congenital diseases such as hip displaysia. We may look into another plan that does cover ALL congenital conditions. Other than that, I would say this is an excellent plan.
