How to Save Money at Animal Medical Center of Wyoming

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The staff was compassionate and understanding in an emergency situation. Emily Violini was eager to touch base with me about the status of my baby boy after dropping him off for some major medical attention for the night. Picking him up the following evening was pleasant as I was greeted with warmth by the ladies at the front desk. As far as prices go, I can’t be more grateful that my little baby stayed overnight with IV antibiotics and pain meds for less than 750$. Thank you for taking such great care of my Nicholas.

My mare had a choke and the vet got us right in on a Saturday morning. before we even made it to town she knew what was happening and what she needed and waisted no time in jumping into it. The vet and tech were so amazing, even when hay filled water filled her mouth from the tube. They had great attitudes and are the reason I will be switching vets!!! I can’t explain how great full I am for saving Rachel’s life and how amazing they were through the whole process. Even calling to check up on her and making sure she is doing well. thank you so much!!!!!

The staff was very friendly and welcoming. They helped make my pup feel comfortable and loved. The vet was amazing and my baby didn't even realize she gave him his shots! I will never take my pets anywhere else!

Very kind, empathetic staff. My 13 year old cat likely has cancer but they assured me they will take the best care possible to ensure that her (otherwise fantastic) health and life are prolonged. Doc said, "She's only halfway through her life," and let me cry while he spoke to me. Thank you, guys. I plan to write an even better review once I get my best friend and ESA out of her surgery next month. Loving addition to this: she saw that the paperwork you all brought me made me cry. What'd she do? Laid on top of it haha. Thank you all. I so so so much appreciate your kindness and empathy and honesty.

I took my 6 month old Bernese Mountain Dog in for what turned out to be emergency surgery for an obstruction in his stomach. Dr Gauhil and her assistant Cheyenne were so kind and wonderful! (we picked him up on a weekend so i never saw other staff except to check in for an emergency) Edited to say that 7 days after my puppy came home from surgery he became septic....I took him back in and I was treated horribly by the vet tech we saw, it seemed they didn't care about my puppy at that point - just how I intended to pay. He ended up having to stay the night for IV antibiotics. The next day, upon his pick up, I was treated so rudely by the vet tech Kasi - continuously asking about how I intended to pay and their policy to not to release a pet without it. (payment was not an issue-but being told what exactly was wrong with my puppy was). When I asked what I should do if something else happened over the weekend she said dont bring him back here he needs a specialist!? (for sepsis?! after a surgery this office performed!!??) A kind word can go along way but they have several rude staff and only a couple vets and vet techs that are even friendly or considerate. I will say that the front desk lady named Elsa (edited Jan 30 when I learned her name) was very kind and seemed genuinely concerned for me and my pet. Being born and raised in Gillette I expected better from a long time business...front staff and vet techs can make or break the office! In this case the vet tech ruined our experience (even stated we weren't to come back) and we will not return.
