How to Save Money at Checkout Veterinary

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have been going here for awhile! I recently got a kitten back in December 2024 he had an eye issue towards the end of January 2025 it is now May and he is finally improving after switching him to a different vet! This place is ridiculous! He has seen 3 different providers at this location and I take him to capital city vet and first visit we get answers and proper care with proper testing and CORRECT medication!!!!!!!! I was told by Dr. Denny they are limited to what medication they have in stock at that office! Not once was I offered a prescription to take to a pharmacy that would have worked. This whole time with multiple providers not one of them sent me somewhere else to get proper testing done besides an ophthalmology referral which I wouldn’t be able to get in until October 25! And was told this wasn’t urgent! With the test results I received from capital city vet he was on the severe side and is deadly to kittens!! The manger Tara is very unprofessional and as a manger you should look into things before you call and be prepared! I have everything all set to go with filling a complaint with the veterinary board and better business! Tara stated to me “ if I file a complaint I probably won’t win due to they didn’t neglect my cat” I’m sure there phone calls are recorded so I will have the boards handle that! Never did a temp on my kitten or preform any type of testing! I did receive a refund for his visits! They wouldn’t refund the urgent care visit due to “ I decided to take him somewhere else” is what Tara the manger stated to me by email. Yeah I took him somewhere else why would I constantly take him here and nothing! By text message I was told it was a good idea that I took him in! My cat just had a follow up on Saturday and his infection is cleared the outer infection of his eye is cleared and now they are working on his inner eye to clear that up! No longer has a fever! My kitten can’t talk so I am advocating for him and standing up!!!!! He hasn’t even gotten to enjoy his kitten time and has been stressed and was hit under the bed when he was ill. I will make sure the boards get everything including photos and videos I transferred both of my cats out!

Dr. Greer and Tara are simply amazing! They recently did the ear crop for my Doberman, Kyro, and the care and professionalism they showed throughout the process were top-notch. I’m so impressed that I’ll be using Check In and Check Out as my go-to vet moving forward. Thank you again for taking such great care of Kyro!

Dr. Deanna & staff were so friendly and helpful! I appreciated that they were able to fit my pup Popsicle in and were so caring. Dr. Deanna had a great demeanor and even got down on the floor with Popsicle to make her feel comfortable. The weekend hours are so convenient, and treatment was quick and easy. I would definitely come here again and recommend it!

Absolutely love Check Out Vet and their staff. Friendly, knowledgeable, proactive, and amazing communication. Love the estimates ahead of the appointment. The drive in format takes the stress out of arriving to the appointment and avoiding other pets/noise in the waiting room like other vet offices. Being able to call or text is a game changer. 5/5 stars. I highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
