How to Save Money at Affordable Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This place is completely unprofessional and I refuse to bring my pet back to this place. The staff here are completely rude! They "lost" my dogs records not once but twice! I've been taking my dog here since 2020 and last year when I came in to get his vaccinations they argued that he was a new patient. Even though I had a bottle of medicine that I needed for them to refill. Then the second time was this week when I needed to refill his medication. They "lost" the records from his visit 4 months ago. The girl behind the counter argued that it was a year since his last visit. I had to show her my bank statement showing her that I took my dog in May of this year to prove her wrong. The Vet was there and he didn't do anything to help the situation. She never apologized for losing my dogs records and she still didn't offer him his medication since they were no records of his medication. Take your pets elsewhere!!!

The doctor is very knowledgeable and will take the time to explain so you understand. I was just there today and he walked me through my dogs problems that were a simple fix and very affordable. I paid another vet located by Home Depot in central Tacoma $1200 and got the run around. Go see this guy he's a very good man. UPDATE 8 hrs later and my dog is doing wonderful, just got back from a walk. It wasn't a tick bite... It was allergies!!!. No more anti biotics, pain pills, ear infection solution, and anti inflammatory meds.Stay away from the vet near Home Depot off Center Street.

Really unprofessional place the girl that helped with my cat was very nice! . The vet I would rate the vet 2 out of 10. Didn't give us everything we were supposed to get, didn't write down everything that happened at the appointment on the receipt it's definitely not like any vet that we've ever been to in 2 other states . Looking for another place to take our pets. Really wish there was a humane society that has a veterinary Service like they do in other States. The Humane society was awesome whenever we took our pets to the vet there. They do not have a veterinary service at any humane society in this state it's only a shelter. That's So sad because the humane society veterinarian was awesome in other States!

This is a convenient place where I used to live, expensive and not very good customer communication, I took my fur baby to afford-a-vet in Kent and in 2 days she had surgery that saved her life. I live even farther away from Kent now but that's the best vet ever. Dr. K is a animal doctor who cares and works with you to help your fur baby. It's really worth the drive to Kent.

Fine for the price, which matters when you're as broke as i am. The receptionist is much nicer in person!. The veterinarian was initially a bit rough with my very small cat, who is passive by nature and put up zero resistance to being handled. He seemed almost annoyed with me for the duration of the visit, which was less than five minutes As is typical of many more affordable care options, they overly recommend Science Diet and Royal Canin, and have a large sales display in the waiting room. I personally do not trust either brand
