How to Save Money at Tahoma Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Always friendly staff, good pet services by the doctor as well. Lots of parking. My livestock guardian dog was a little nervous but the technicians in the back were able to treat him for his hot spot and I am happy he wasn't muzzled or sedated to get him to be cared for.

I switched over to Tahoma Vets because I need a veterinarian office that genuinely cared about my pets and not just about the $$$ they have been absolutely patient with my obsessive helicopter dog mom-ness and my need to ensure that my baby boy is taken care of with the highest degree of care possible. They have been open to learning new things and then taking that and diving Into rabbit holes of knowledge! And for me a vet that admits they don’t know everything but is willing to do the research is all one could ask for! Dr Strauß has been phenomenal and so on point with holistic approach to healing- endless fountain of knowledge and a desire to learn more- one of the best vets I’ve ever met and I’ve met a lot! Dr. Long is a compassionate and loving vet who gets down to your pups level and like Dr Strauß give care with true compassion. They seek ways to make vet care affordable and work with the humans to educate and to support! The support staff are like family- friendly compassionate and on point! Truly could not ask for a better team of people to take care of my furfamily. If you’re lucky enough to become one of their patients trust you are in some of the best hands possible!

Staff are wonderful and caring! I always know my fluffs are in good hands. Check ups, surgeries, emergencies, and end of life comfort care have been made easier in my household because we've been going here for 7+ years

Update: Today we had to take our pup in who isn't acting like herself. We were able to get an appointment within an hour. They took great care of her and clipped Ms Fiona's nails so nicely. Thanks Tahoma vet UPDATE: Today Tahoma vet successfully took care of my Frizzle kitty. Today Frizzle didn't seem quite right, I called them and they were able to get my baby back today and he is recovering nicely. I have gotten multiple call updates about him. I couldn't ask for a vet hospital with a better heart. They seem too love my babies just as much as I do. Great vets and staff. They have been taking care of our Bruiser dog for about 6 months and was able to give us end of life care for our old man. The process of losing a pet is never easy. The people in this place genuinely took care of everything for Chance upon his passing. Chance received a bowl of ice cream with ham and cheese. We received a paw print and they took our boy away from us one last time. It was very peaceful. Thank you so much for taking care of us. The Follmers

Dr. Long and the whole team is absolutely phenomenal and took the best care of our sweet goat, Edna, when we brought her in for an emergency. Unfortunately, Edna didn’t make it but we are so appreciative of the compassion, patience, and persistence they demonstrated throughout the process. We look forward to having them take care of our other goats and sheep (under better circumstances), as we know they will be in the best of hands.
