How to Save Money at Animal Care Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our cat Nigel kept vomiting. I called around to see if I could get an appointment the next day for him but as it was a Saturday, no-one could take him. I eventually booked at the Animal Care Center for the Monday with the intention to taking him to the Emergency Vet that evening. Not an hour after I made the appointment Mackenzie texted me. She had taken the time to talk to the medical staff about Nigel and they managed to squeeze him in for a Saturday appointment. The relief I felt! We were so grateful that they would go the extra mile like that. Our vet Dr. Lipstake was such a sweet person and so good with Nigel even though he liked to complain. She took the time to get two radiologist exams making sure nothing was lodged in Nigel's stomach. They also did everything they could to make Nigel feel better. We were sent home with some medicine which eventually made Nigel feel much better. At a stressful time they went above and beyond for our pet. We're now patients for life.

Dr. Gossom and Chloe took such great care of my orange kitty Banana. I had to bring her in because she had severe gingivitis and had to have her teeth removed. I felt safe knowing that Dr. Gossom was going to make her feel better! They were even able to get me a later drop off time due to my hectic work schedule. I truly believe they care about our pets as much as we do!!! Chloe also sent me a cute after surgery photo of Banana and even gave her a new toy! 100/10 would recommend Animal Care Center!

Not only was the entire staff caring and professional for my emergency with my puppy, Tag, their gentle handling of him put him put him at ease. and make it less scarey. Looked like they were working on their own pet. I will never go anywhere else and I have told my friends abt Animal Care Center as well.

The kindness and level of care that me and my still-learning-to-be-a-polite-citizen rescue Bulldog received at the Animal Care Center (even as new clients) was simply unmatched! From the very first call to the appointment itself, I have nothing but the absolute best to say about the whole experience. Both the administrative staff as well as the techs and doctors were so calm and knowledgeable, answering all my questions with infinite patience even though I’m sure they all had a full and busy day. Bringing in a rescue with iffy records and an uncertain background is always a challenge, but the doctor and tech took the time to recommend to me what steps we needed to take to make sure my dog is healthy and happy. I feel fully confident that her medical needs will be managed to the highest level at Animal Care Center, which is such a relief! The tech even took the time to write down the name of my dogs microchip company, so I wouldn’t forget it… I mean, how kind is that?! I also received prompt follow up calls with the results of the tests that were done on my girl, and even a follow up call the day after the appointment to make sure she was recovering well. I genuinely couldn’t be happier or more grateful to be a client here, and I cannot recommend them enough!
