How to Save Money at Mt. Spokane Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

When I call, I get, "Hello, what did your pup eat now?" I feel like it is a testament to how much care and attention the staff and doctors put into their clients and critters. They get to know you and are passionate about their work. Most importantly, the doctors typically shy away from a magnitude of tests that are costly and no true value in their diagnosis. Mentally and financially, I appreciate that. Our animals have been in for everything since they were puppies, regular visits, vaccinations, injuries, excessive stress/anxiety; and if you didn't pick up from the opening statement, intestine issues from eating random things on the farm. We have been going for years and will continue to be life long clients.

The veterinarian staff here is top notch and I am so grateful for them. My dog got sick and needed care ASAP and they worked us in and was able to get her the surgery she needed to save her life. I will forever recommend Mt. Spokane Vet to friends and family! Thank you for taking such good care of my girl.

We took our bearded dragon in for possible impaction. Initially there was confusion about a drop off and waiting to see the vet and ended up waiting in the room for half hour for no reason since it was just a drop off. That’s fine, no big deal. The staff are really courteous and nice for sure. We were told that they had the proper set up for him. The lights and specifically about a heating system for him. We’re dropped him off about 11am and got him about 2:30 pm and once we got him I took him out of his cage in the parking lot and he was literally an ice cube. They hadn’t used ANY source of heat for him. I cannot express how cold that lizard was. We paid a $117 deposit before bringing him in and needed up paying another $70 upon pick up. It just doesn’t sit right with me to pay for my pet to be taken care of properly and have that not be done. There were a couple other things that aren’t important and are understandable but also added to the choice of not returning there. Getting pets name wrong even after being corrected, being forgotten about in the room, I checked on the form to call before any procedure to verify it was okay and they never called before doing anything to him, he was put inside his carrier with it upside down and you, he’s was a ice cube. UPDATE: our dragon had possible impaction but was still very much active and alert. He wasn’t in a critical care unit. If what he was housed in actually had a heating source id suggest checking to make sure the unit works because i wouldn’t complain or do this if he was properly cared for. He was literally the coldest I’ve ever felt him and it was very clear there was no heat to him at all. I’m not asking for a refund from you or anything, im just never returning there or recommending to anyone.

My wife and I found a baby rabbit that was injured on the street. After calling around to many vet offices we found this amazing center that helped us get the rabbit help. They were very friendly and the only thing I could ask is that they were closer to home! We will definitely contact them again should the need arise, 10 out of 5 stars if I could. Thank you Mt Spokane Veterinary Hospital!

I have never been so impressed by a veterinary hospital! First off, the overall atmosphere was serene, homey and friendly. Every staff member was courteous and helpful. Unlike other places, I never felt like a "number" but instead more like an old friend. The Dr. listened to my concerns, quickly evaluated the situation and was able to give me viable options for both the immediate and future care for my dog. All of this and more in my first visit to this incredible veterinary hospital. I very much look forward to working with Mt. Spokane Veterinary Hospital for the care of all my furry friends in the future! I highly recommend this establishment!
