How to Save Money at My Pet's Veterinary Urgent Care and Wellness

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

After having a nightmare experience with this location when it was under previous ownership, I swore I would never return. I cannot tell you how happy I am that I gave the new practice a chance!!!!! Every single step of the way, every single person I interacted with was glowing with kindness and professionalism. They answered every question I had with sincerity and ACCURACY. After a few months of personal chaos, my schnauzer mix was looking a little scruffy and rough around the edges, but they were so incredibly sweet about it. To get him into his groomer, he needed some vaccinations boosted. They got me in quickly and I paid exactly what I was quoted. He's a nervous dude and everyone was so kind to him, which helped put me at ease as well. It made my heart so happy to see everyone being treated so well. I could hear ever so slightly through the door in the exam room (Not snooping!!!! Just thin walls :) ) and it was so reassuring to hear such kind, positive banter amongst employees even out of earshot of the clients. Little details like this make the biggest difference. I know vet care can run on the more expensive side and I totally understand why. With that said, I felt that their very fair, transparent pricing was completely worth every single penny and I will be recommending them to anyone who needs a vet, ESPECIALLY if your critters lean on the anxious side. I cannot say this enough-- the relief I have to have finally found a vet that fits our needs is insurmountable. Thank you, My Pet's Vet Clinic, for being so fantastic and bringing such wonderful care to our community!

This is by far the best experience I have had at a vet, from the time I called to when I left the clinic I was met with nothing but friendly staff and fantastic advice. While I hope my cat Marco has no more issues for awhile I do feel better now knowing there is a fantastic clinic I can take him too. They got me in right away and answered what I’m sure were some bad questions without making me feel like I knew nothing. Thank you to everyone who helped me!

Unfortunately I had to bring my dog in to be euthanized. I called 20 minutes before I got there to let them know i was on the way so they could get a room ready for us. All of the staff was so kind, caring, and understanding. You could really tell that they felt empathetic towards us. They let her lay on a soft little blanket and gave her some yummy treats before we had to say goodbye. My dog was very happy and calm in her final moments and the veternarian talked us through the process and reassured us of many things. They also offered to give us as much time as we needed to say goodbye. I am so so thankful that I went here instead of going elsewhere. They really made this painful experience as stress free as possible.

I have been here a few times, one for an urgent situation and then two more times for routine vaccinations that my dog was overdue on (regular vet couldn’t get him in for at least a month!). Every time, they have been very friendly and knowledgeable, and I really appreciate the email follow-up a day after to see how my dog was doing (even for just the vaccination visit!). Arriving right as they open seems to have worked the best to get in quickly as they do not make appointments; not sure how long the wait is if you show up later in the day. Overall, very pleased with my experience with them and would go again for any urgent care!

I needed an urgent care clinic in a weekend and they were the only one I could find with availability. They were very welcoming and I only waited an hour (would be less but a couple emergency patients came in and were understandably admitted before me). The vet techs were very nice and sweet with my cat and the vet (owner) was very nice and informative. Paid $100 for they visit and $100 for an antibiotic shot and cone. Very happy with my experience and it feels good to know I have an option if I need them in the future for urgent visits.
