How to Save Money at VCA Panther Lake Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We have brought both animals here to this hospital both have died and both animals they tried making thousands of dollars off of us. Just a heads up they charge you 200 dollars to setup an appointment to put your dog down. Then they charge you another 400 dollars to put their ashes in a cheaply made tin box. I came here to see if anyone else finds this place to be an investors dream because they are making hella money off of misfortune. This place is just as bad as puppyland. Go to a better veterinarian one that actually has a good score with the Better Business Bureau.

I had the best and touching experience today with the vca. My yorkie Coco had a sudden death this afternoon, as a desperate owner on my way to the emergency clinic in Renton knowing shes already gone, maybe theres a way to revive her... i stopped by her regular vet at the vca. Rushed in at closing time and asked if theyre able to help me. Two doctors rushed out, performed cpr in the parking lot and was told there was no heartbeat. They brought me and coco inside and gave me options for cremation, they even did an xray to find out what caused her death. Ive owned dogs all my life i felt it deep down they cared about animals, not because it was their job, but because they had passions for helping animals. Thank you guys so much!

I took both my dogs here to have their teeth cleaned. I was a little concerned after reading all the reviews, but ultimately they did a fantastic job. Everyone was nice to my dogs and myself. They were professional and courteous. The price was right was less then $400 for both dogs. I’m not sure why all the negative reviews. I was comfortable and my dogs are home now with me sleeping off their big day. Was totally worth the savings over the prices many other vets were quoting for the same service.

I took my dog to his regular vet multiple times for a dental abscess that wasn’t getting better. They recommend I go somewhere that could perform a dental X-ray. Today VCA performed the X-ray and performed a surgery needed to remove a tooth root the other vet left behind when they performed an extraction. First off the assistant went over everything with me in detail. I really understood what needed to be done and why. I expressed some concern about some other stuff with my dog and she gave me honest advice on how to help. The assistant also told all of my concerns to the doctor who called me and went into even more detailed advice on how to help my boy live more comfortably. The price was really fair also. I paid the same price for an exam, anesthesia, X-ray, meds and extraction than I did for just anesthesia and extraction at the other hospital. I had car troubles on my way to pick up my dog and they stayed late and cared for him. They were very understanding about it and didn’t give me a hard time. I have to admit I was nervous initially about coming to this hospital because of the low rating but Im glad I did. They helped my dog get out of pain and that means more to me then anything. Thank you VCA staff !
