Veterinary Surgical Centers
How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Veterinary Surgical Centers
Preventive care
Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.
Compare prescription pricing
Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.
Consider pet insurance
Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Getting to Know Your Veterinarian

Experience
Ask whether the clinic has experience treating your specific type of pet, since care can vary between dogs, cats, and pocket pets.
Emergency Care Procedures
It’s helpful to understand how the clinic handles after-hours emergencies, including whether they provide emergency services or refer to nearby emergency hospitals.
Communication Preferences
Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.
Breed Specific Health Considerations
Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.
Facility Tour

The staff that was working the night of Oct 3, were excellent. I showed up as an emergency with my cat, Jenny. Jenny was only six years old and had given no signs that anything was wrong. She fell and became unresponsive. Jenny passed from a heart defect, which is something some cats have had since birth. There was nothing anyone could do to save her life. The entire staff treated me and my baby with respect. They were very compassionate. They took their time with this crying cat Mom and answered all my questions. I am very glad they were open. Veterinary care can be very expensive. This center's rates are very reasonable. I would recommend them to anyone.

I just don’t know where to begin. There should be a “10” on this 5 star rating. The staff from the first time I met them to taking Abby in for knee rebuild surgery to picking her up. If people hospitals were run this good, we would live a better life. Very compassionate for our animals, very considerate and understanding with details explained without having to ask. Dr. Phelps and staff, Thank You for making a tough surgery go seamless. We are recovering at home as I write this and can truly say, This experience ranks in the top two of the utmost professional, courteous and compassionate of all time. Great team, staff and all. Thank you. Abby Lupton and Family. 👍🏼👍🏼

This is my second experience with VSC, the first was in 2016 when Lucky had the TPLO, meniscal release with Dr. Langenbach, followed by a course of PT. Lucky is now 12+ and has several problems, he was seen by Dr. Taylor and evaluated. I was very pleased with Dr. Taylor and all staff at VSC and will follow his recommendations for an initial effort at conservative management, and a referral to Dr.Brunei and PT as soon as I complete my own course of PT. I am very happy with my experience with VSC, and so is Lucky.

We were apprehensive for the rear leg surgery our dog had to have and initially we were going to think about it prior to making our decision. The staff was very thorough with description of the need for the surgery, how it would help her, the details of the 'healing' process and answered any questions we had. We chose to do the surgery the same day and so far everything has gone as planned. We received a call from the Dr. Taylor, the surgeon, during Christmas/New Year's holiday to check on her and he questioned us about her status - we felt very comfortable with his call and the follow-up he gave us. Appontments have been on time and staff have been very attentive to us and our dog - I highly recommend their service - to have this type of facility in our area is very much appreciated. Thank you - Misty, Sue & Don McFarland
