How to Save Money at Valley Veterinary Emergency Hospital and Referral Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Last week, we faced a sudden emergency with our kitten, Finn, who ingested heart medication intended for his older and much larger canine sister. I promptly contacted Valley Veterinary Emergency, and their team guided me on the necessary steps to take. Given that we live over an hour away, they graciously allowed me to pre-register Finn over the phone, ensuring that he was attended to almost immediately upon our arrival. Throughout the experience, the staff showed exceptional kindness and compassion towards both Finn and us. He was hospitalized overnight, and they made it a priority to keep us informed; the veterinarian even took the time to speak with me directly to provide updates. Although they initially quoted us for an extended hospital stay, they ultimately discharged him earlier than expected and issued a refund for the difference in time. To me, this shows their genuine concern for the well-being of their patients rather than just making more money. They knew Finn was doing better and would feel better being at home. I appreciated that. Additionally, when I had follow-up questions the next day, they were more than willing to assist and allowed me to consult with a vet again. I am truly grateful for their care, compassion, expertise, and bedside manner. While no one wants to find themselves in a pet emergency, I wholeheartedly recommend Valley Veterinary Emergency should the need arise. Thank you to the entire staff for taking such good care of my baby. 🧡 🐈

I went through hell and back. And all within 3 hours. From an old dog (mine) that doesn't feel good to a devasting diagnosis and putting to sleep. They took me in when no one else wanted to. Not even my very own vet. The doctor was very sweet and patient with me and my dog. So if whoever has a pet emergency don't bother going somewhere else. This is the place you wanna be. They're open 24/7 and you can just show up. Charlie and I say thank you. Fly high now little buddy ❤️ i will always love you.

Our sweet girl Phoebe passed away late at night. We brought her in to be put to rest and they were extremely kind to us. They had a safe and comforting room for us to be in. They treated her with dignity and respect. They let us take our time and took her only when we said we were ready. We are extremely grateful to have been able to bring her in.

Highly Recommend!! Our Trixie couldn't be seen by our vet and so they referred us here. She is only 8 months old and has already been hospitalized twice (once before we got her from a rescue group), and then after she got really sick following her rabies vaccine. She was lethargic and not eating, wheezing and had a high fever. We went in at opening and were seen almost right away. Your experience may vary depending on the timing, when we went in to pick her up the next day the lobby was full!. Be patient!! It is an emergency room!! ALL the folks there were very caring, answered all our questions, were very transparent about the costs, optional tests and care that would be provided. They had her in there for a full 24 hours and thankfully her fever broke, her spirit returned and we were able to take her home. Like I said, EVERYONE was kind and caring. The final bill was in-between the estimate (they give a high/low estimate) and when we had questions, they went through it with us and explained everything to our satisfaction. I would highly recommend Pet insurance especially for new puppies because no vet is cheap and the level of care we got was very high, so with pet insurance the stress of the costs is minimal.

Last night, I had to bring my sweet elderly lab here to be put down. Skyler (I’m sorry if I misspelled your name) was an absolute angel along with the front desk staff. They were attentive, empathetic, and made sure me and my family had everything we needed and wanted. As my first experience with this location, they exceeded my expectations and let me cry my eyes out from beginning to end. I’m forever grateful for you guys and making my first experience putting a cherished fur baby down easier.
