How to Save Money at Tipton Ridge Veterinary Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Took my cat there for sinus issues they did good with that then they told my husband our cat needed a booster rabies shot now my cat can barely walk and they want to charge us 60 bucks to see him when it was their fault hes like this in the first place... I feel like since they administered the shot they should check him for free we already spent alot of money for his treatments before hand. I wouldn't recommend going here.

I took my green cheek conure for his first vet visit today. The place was very clean and inviting. I was favorably impressed with the manner of all the staff, especially Dr. Morgan. He was very friendly and professional. He took time to talk to me, without making me feel rushed in any way, even though I am certain he had other clients waiting. My bird was not very cooperative, but Dr. Morgan appeared to do his best to cause as little stress as possible. While waiting for the doctor, a staff member came and offered me something to drink, which really impressed me. Thanks to Dr. Morgan—and his amazing team—for immediately giving me a sense of confidence and working hard to earn my trust from the moment I walked in the door!

We had our 2nd experience with Dr.Sharp today. Outstanding is an understatement. His staff were great with our pup. Dr. Sharp took more time to listen, evaluate and discuss the concerns than I could of hoped for. It went from a visit filled with anxiety to peace of mind. From check in to check out excellent care. Really can't say enough good things about our experience. Genuine care... that's rare these days. We will be using him for all of our veterinary needs.

On Sunday, our baby had an allergy flare up and needed some extra medicine. I called and they were able to see our boy that day, just had to pay an emergency visit, which is totally understandable, it was Sunday after all. This was our first time using this office; the staff, vet assistant, and Dr. were amazing. The assistant and Dr both took their time with Kilo, they got on the floor with him, this way they were able to get to know him and for Kilo to get to know them. They made him feel at home and at ease as they were helping make him feel better. The Dr. fully explained the current medication he was on for his allergies and explained the new medication he was going to give him. The are very reasonable with their prices as well. I will definitely be using Tipton Ridge Veterinary Center for all our veterinary appointments in the future.

Drove over an hour for an appointment originally quoted $52 for an office visit for a rabbit, ended up being charged almost $70. Has a tumor that is busted open in his chest with a 1 1/2" wound. Looked at for maybe two minutes and said there is nothing they would do. "No time" to do a surgery, referred me to Blacksburg after saying they would give me estimates. Basically told me to just leave the wound open that lots of rabbits lol be with those. Seriously? The price difference was bad enough, but now I'm paying for a useless visit. If you knew the issue and knew you couldn't do anything then you needed to refer me somewhere else from the beginning. Ridiculous waste of time and money. Had no right to charge a visit just to send me an hour and a half up the road.
