How to Save Money at Clinch Mountain Veterinary Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am so sad to state Dr Taylor has passed away and Clinch Mountain Vet is closed. I will miss her, her devotion to animals, and the gentle care she showed when she treated all my animals. I moved from upstate New York to richlands Virginia. I needed to find a vet for my dog. I found Clinch Mountain Veterinary on the internet. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Dr Taylor and the staff at this office. My 10 year old dog was seen by Dr Taylor who was kind and caring. I had a 5 weeks old kitten I found with a sever left eye infection. Dr Taylor had to remove the eye and being only 5 weeks old I was concerned. The kitten is now 6 months old and very healthy and very happy. Also my dog is 10 years old and recently became very ill from something he ate. I called the office at 8:00AM an hour before the office opened to try and get an emergency appointment. Dr Taylor told me to bring him right in before office hours. Six days later he is fine and back to his old self. This is the vet to go to for compassion and care

Dr. Taylor is an excellent veterinarian. She has saved many cats and kittens I have taken there. She is the best in the area. The office staff are always polite. However, the waiting time runs long.

My boyfriend took our baby in to this clinic to be spayed. Something happened during the surgery, I am speculating that it had to do with intubation. She kept getting sicker and weaker. Throwing up blood and passing bloody stool. Took her back in and xrays were sent to VA to be read by a radiologist. It was found that she had a collapsed lobe in each lung. And was told that nothing could be done. A surgery as simple as spaying should not cost a baby their life. Yes, she passed away this afternoon. 3 months ago she was vibrant and healthy and today she is being prepared for burial.

A few years ago I had to have my beautiful brindle mountain cur put down. She had developed a very fast type of breast cancer. The staff here was exceptional to me and my dog. First they covered the table with a soft sherpa material to make her comfortable, instead of just letting her lay on the hard steel. They let me stay with her the whole time. After all was said and done they placed her in what is called an angel bag. It was a very good experience considering the circumstances. I have had many pets in my life and seen different vets, but none was more understanding than the staff of CMVS. They actually cared. I mean really cared and didn't just go through the motions. It was the first and only time that dog ever visited that clinic. She was suffering and I needed a vet in a hurry. So to treat me and my dog so well without ever having seen us before is something you don't get everyday. That dog took a piece of all of our hearts that day.

A Saturday morning emergency visit. First time with Dr. Taylor as our regular vet office (30yrs) was closed this one Saturday. Dr. Taylor was through, kind to Buddy, reviewed meds, history, explained her observation & diagnosis. Reviewed new meds & schedules. We were very pleased with treatment, recognizing our "emergency", quick treatment, the care by Dr. Taylor and her staff! As with any pet...they become part of your "family", this vet & staff reflected that same feeling. A BIG thank you!
