How to Save Money at King George Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Never ever ever go to this place. They really don’t care about your animals. I came in with my dog because she was super lethargic all day, wouldnt eat or even drink. She is a very active dog considering she’s just a puppy. She slept all thru the morning and until 3pm, she only got up because I forced her to get up to take her to the vet. She never sleeps that much and she wouldn’t even play with me when I tried. I tried taking her outside to potty and play. She flopped on the ground and was going back to sleep which she NEVER does she LOVES it outside. She was starting to get a cough and had a really runny nose as well. I told them all this information and asked if they could test her for Parvo because I work at a rescue and was very scared that I brought that home. Off the bat the front desk lady was very rude and talked down to me. I asked them if they could please test my dog for Parvo and they told me they would so I brought her inside. We got into the room and the guy Veterinarian came in and he took her temperature and checked her breathing. He said her temperature is a little high but that she “seems fine”. She went to sleep on the floor in there, definitely doesn’t seem fine. She NEVER and I repeat NEVER sleeps when she is out and about. The guy vet then leaves without taking any blood to test her and says “I’m gonna get you ready to check out” the vet tech then came back in and I told her that I wanted my dog to be tested that’s what they told me they were going to do which is why I came. She then goes and grabs the vet and he comes back and is very reluctant to testing her and was very very rude. They then continued to talk about me like I couldn’t hear them?? Very very unprofessional. If I wanted to check her temperature I could have easily did that for FREE in my own house. Instead they costed me 70 dollars JUST TO CHECK HER TEMPERATURE. Just ridiculous. Do not bring your dog here if you don’t want your money and time to be wasted.

I want to thank KGVC for seeing me on short noticed when I needed to put my 10 1/2 year old great dane down. They were very compassionate and professional especially with me never seeing them before this. The front desk lady was very gracious with my husband and I as we took care of the business side before she brought us in to see the doctor too. Thank you again!

01/26/2023 - Called here freaking out because my dogs got attacked and one was bleeding very badly. Not only did they give me bad info on an emergency hospital to take them to, but then I heard them laughing at me before I hung up. Guess I will not be taking my pets here as we were in the process of looking for a new vet anyways.

Worst vet I have ever been to! They literally told me that they had to run a full battery of tests including x rays because they did not have them on file. When I said I could not afford that and asked if we could do pieces starting with most likely they said "we are here for the pet." No!!! You are here for the money you trash people! Then when I finally got them to agree to start with blood work and a stool sample and we would bring her back later for x-rays once she was feeling better, they told me I was taking up too much of their time and THEY were cancelling the appointment... I was TWO hours early for my appointment time! These people deserve no business and they do not care about your pets.
