How to Save Money at Clarksville Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I would give 0 stars if I could! If you care about your pet and/or your wallet do NOT go here!! I took my dog to get neutered & provided previous vet records. Right before surgery they vaccinated him & ran a bunch of tests that I did NOT consent to before surgery and also charged me for it(even though I signed a form for just the surgery itself, NOTHING ELSE TO BE DONE). They are not supposed to vaccinate right before surgery because it can be dangerous yet they did that too. I also tried to get in contact with Dr.Dahl, left several messages, & he never called me back! Fast forward 4 months & now they won’t even write me a heart guard prescription even though he’s been on preventatives. Heart worm tests are supposed to last 1 year. The customer service at this vet is some of the worst I’ve experienced & this vet is not trustworthy at all!! They care nothing about your pet or you and just want your money. They’ve also over charged several family members and would never do anything about it. & Before they try to comment anything otherwise, I also have proof/screenshots of everything that I’ll be more than happy to share as well!

Jady is my friends dog and we took him to the vet today for his yearly checkup. The vet and his staff were happy to see Jady.

I have used Clarksville Vet Clinic for a few years now. I never had any problems with this group until my dog went in to be spayed. They wanted to do blood work before surgery and I disagreed; they then found her to be having some abnormal bleeding during surgery and they again suggested a blood panel. This time I agreed and she was found to have Lyme disease and one other tick illness. So we began a cycle of antibiotics and you could certainly tell that she was feeling a bit better. She was scheduled to have her stitches removed about ten days post surgery. When we arrived to have the stitches removed they again started pushing the blood panel only 10 days after the previous one. This time I adamantly declined And the male Doc and his future minion came into to try to talk me into the test again! I want her to be tested, but I’m not going to test her only 10 days after we begin treatment. The male Doc was so incredibly pressing that it felt like he belonged on a infomercial. The best part is he was referring to some of her stitched areas as having cellulitis and that was the pressing reason for the blood panel. He then went on to attempt to make me feel bad saying that “well if it’s not in the puppy budget”….I’m sure a favorite line of his. Well a couple more weeks go by and she is and was still doing great and huh, who would have thought no more cellulitis. EXCEPT one stitched section that was not healing. I finally got up close and pulled what looked like a hair and sure enough they had left an entire stitch inside her and her skin was trying to heal around it. This basic misstep Is as catastrophic as any considering the points leading up. They were sell, sell, sell from the beginning. Then seemed to have been training the next generation; And did not provide proper training or oversight. You don’t get to make such a basic mistake as a Doctor. It just makes you wonder how much more complacent they could be in a more serious situation. I won’t be back. If you need a blood panel this is your guy!
