How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My cat Gucci was referred here by his regular vet to get a mass in his abdomen checked out. We saw Dr. Brewer and he determined Gucci needed an endoscopy and a biopsy to find out exactly what we were dealing with. The atmosphere was clean and welcoming. All the staff we dealt with were kind, courteous and professional. They made me feel comfortable leaving my cat with them while they did the procedure. Dr. Brewer was informative and transparent. I knew what to expect the whole way. It was quite expensive, but that’s kinda to be expected when you’re dealing with specialists. It was worth every penny for me to be able to get to the bottom of my pet’s illness. When I picked Gucci up, he was still a bit sedate but seemed comfortable and no worse for wear. They gave me a timeframe to expect results and then was able to get them to me and my regular vet even sooner. Overall I was very happy with my experience here. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Brewer for any veterinary internal medicine needs.

My vet referred me here to see Dr. Brewer because my dog was diagnosed with cancer. The consultation for your dog to be seen is $241 by itself. I ended up paying close to $1,000…$994.00 to be exact before leaving. They had to do an ultrasound, and a cytology report. The next day I called up there to obtain records and images of the foundings from the ultrasound. Guess what? The lady I spoke to said they couldn’t find the images.. so where’s the proof of the ultrasound. So what did I pay for actually? I asked the lady what her name was and she said her name was Jennifer. She was laughing on the phone like this was funny. I told her nothing is funny about this my dog was diagnosed with cancer and you’re sitting there laughing. You pay them all this money to find out they don’t know what happened to any images or have any proof that they did what they say they did. How do you not have images of an ultrasound, she was sitting there trying to find the images while we were on the phone saying she couldn’t find anything and don’t know why they weren’t saved. I read the reviews and they were bad and I should have never brought my dog here but I was desperate for help and this is where my vet referred me to. Be cautious when coming here I only wish the best for your pet.

This is the only Blue Pearl currently that has ER docs. They were excellent when my cat started having a fit (determined to be a stroke). The staff was incredible. Everyone was so considerate. I was so thankful for them when I urgently needed my sweet girl to be seen, diagnosed, and ultimately put to sleep. The doc was kind and straight forward. I know it can't be easy giving people bad news day in and day out. If you have an emergency with your little loves, I highly recommend this location. You are all so appreciated!!

Took my dog to this Blue Pearl location for the first time today. I was referred here by my regular vet for my dogs itchy skin. We had a good experience. It was not busy and the staff was prompt. The doctor didn’t seem super rushed like at many vet offices which I really appreciated. They were great with my dog who is a Nervous Nelly. He seemed to like everyone there. They are very expensive but it is an emergency/specialty clinic, and their service was good.

We were vacationing in the Outer Banks when my small yorkie went into severe respiratory distress. It was on a Sunday, so there were no hospitals open where we were staying. We drove 2 hours to get to this hospital, and I couldn't be more thrilled. The level of care was absolutely incredible. And the staff even tended to me after I tripped and fell, was bleeding pretty bad, and suffered a panic attack. The staff immediately took her back as soon as we arrived and quickly administered meds to help open her airway. I felt they were responsive and fast-acting, and they also reassured me that she was breathing well under the treatment and not in any pain. Knowing my baby was at least comfortable was the best reassurance at that time during the chaos. My yorkie has a collapsed trachea, come to find out, but we left the hospital feeling confident about her condition, the treatment, and the medication we were given for any future breathing issues. Even if our baby had died, my husband and I both agree that this was the best place for her. We would highly recommend this hospital to anyone.
