How to Save Money at Kingsview Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This is the best vet EVER! I, personally, love Dr. Thorndyke, for my old girl, Puddles. However, ever person employed in this practice is incredible! The level of care and professionalism is top notch. The office is immaculate and I am never, ever rushed in any concern that I have about Puddles. I love Kingsview Animal Hospital so much and I’m tremendously appreciative for the care I’ve received for my 15.5 old Blue Heeler. If you love your pet, take them here. You are welcome! Puddles approved. 🐶

This is a great vet. They won’t pressure you for tests that aren’t necessary, and they actually care about your concerns. If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have gotten a few extra months with my fur baby. From the front desk staff, to the veterinarians….they are all great. I don’t think you will find a better vet in the area.

Loki's first visit to Kingsview Animal Hospital. Dr Thorndyke and her staff were excellent. Since Loki was a rescue, they gave him his first check up for free. I would definitely recommend this Kingsview Animal Hospital if you're looking for veterinary services.

Dr. Thorndike is heaven sent. She has been so attentive and supportive during my dog’s transitioning stages with thyroid cancer. She worked hard to get us in quickly with one of the best and knowledgeable oncologists in town. She really takes the time to explain things, answer questions, and has been a shoulder to cry on during these difficult times. The staff are amazing as well. Natalie, Kristin, Nor, Sam, Brittany, and Sydney are so kind and caring. I moved further away but I will make the extra drive to keep my dog under their exceptional care. They don’t get enough recognition for all that they do for our pets but I hope that they know they are so appreciated for their service and care.

This was our first visit and I must say I was very glad we chose them to take care of all of our little Gypsy’s healthcare needs. I was honestly taken aback as this isn’t the typical animal hospital I’ve been to before. Whoever decorated the place furniture wise definitely has an eye for professionalism and comfort!! This just doesn’t feel/look like a vets office. No doggy smells or odors, not even that medicine/clinic smell either. The entire staff is PAWSOME!! Every single one of them we met was very friendly, and you really get the sense/feeling that they enjoy what they do and want to be there. That’s a big deal for me, I know no one will love Gypsy as much as I do, but they sure did try lol :) I honestly thought I might not walk out with her, lol they all loved her so much!! Dr. Thorndike was a hit from the start and she “sealed the deal” for me with her genuine concern and care for my little puppers. I also very much appreciated how she didn’t rush through the visit(it was Gypsy’s first puppy checkup at 10wks) and these tend to be an “in and out” process. Dr. Thorndike was very thorough and took the time to answer all of my questions. She’s also a hugger which made me like her even more :) I can’t say enough about my first experience and I feel certain that all our future visits will be just as pleasant. I would highly recommend them to anyone in need of a new vet, or if you’re not necessarily happy with the one you have now. I know our little Sheepadoodle aka. Snuggledoodle will receive the best care possible by professionals that have her best interests at heart. Thank you :)
