How to Save Money at Alexandria Animal Hospital of Fort Hunt
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
The practice has undergone a fair amount of struggle since Covid. We’ve stuck with the practice throughout all of it because the vets have always been top notch. But I think the new management and the new team are a step up and we are looking forward to continuing to trust the care of our beloved pets to Dr. Rasys and her team!!

I’ve been with them for four years. In the beginning, everything was great — but in the last year, many of the good doctors have left. It seems like they even changed their name to try and cover up how bad the service has become. They’ve become all about money. They push unnecessary services and don’t prioritize real care. I used to be a happy customer, but not anymore. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere — the quality here is just not what it used to be.

If you care about your pets, don't bring them here. The veterinary staff here have been great, but their office administration is so terrible that it is impossible to ensure consistent treatment for our pets. They almost never answer the phone, they don't return calls or emails, sometimes the only way to get in touch with them is to just show up in person. Our pets are relatively healthy, so we have put up with it, but after a recent experience, we will be going to another vet. One of our pets requires daily medication and we have used the prescription service that Hollin Hall worked with for several years. Recently when trying to manage our prescription orders, I wasn't able to access them. When I reached out to the vet pharmacy service, they informed me that Hollin Hall had ended their relationship and that our prescriptions had all been canceled. No one from Hollin Hall had communicated to us about this at all. We tried calling Hollin Hall to get more information and to make sure our pet's prescriptions would be continued, and they never called back. A couple weeks later, they called us to ask what the dosage is for our pet's medication. They didn't even have this critical information in our pet's records!!! When I asked what had happened with the pharmacy, they insisted they had sent us an email about it (neither me nor my partner received this email, and Hollin Hall insists they have our correct email addresses on file). I asked the office staff member who had called to please have the office manager give me a call to discuss the issue. It has been several weeks. No one has called, and Hollin Hall still has not made any effort to get our pet's prescriptions back into effect. On top of that, the office staff was incredibly rude to both me and my partner, even though we were 100% kind and understanding about this frustrating situation. Hollin Hall vets may be decent, but the office staff does not care about the health and well being of the animals they are taking care of, or about respecting their human customers. Skip Hollin Hall vet and go somewhere else.

Hollin Hall used to be a great animal hospital, but things have changed. My dog was really sick. Took him to the emergency room, throwing up blood and I needed to follow up with his vet. Website wouldn’t let me schedule a appointment. It prompted me to call as it was an emergency. I called several times. No one answered and left several messages. I received a call back a WEEK later!!!!! I couldn’t believe it. At that point I had already taken my dog elsewhere. Never again!

Ashley and the whole team did a wonderful job caring for our pet. Our little dog was in need of a surgery and some shots. We are grateful for our experience.
