How to Save Money at Park Animal Hospital Inc: Erickson Tara Y DVM

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had pretty much the opposite experience of some of the reviewers. Our cat needed to see a vet ASAP. Call after call to various vet offices led nowhere. Everyone agreed she needed to see a vet ASAP, but they were all booked out at least a week and since it was during business hours no urgent care was open, all urgent care appointments with the clinics were booked. I called PAHI feeling very discouraged after all my previous inquiries at MANY other vet offices. To my utter shock, after relaying what we were experiencing with our cat and hearing them tell me they were not only booked out but also not accepting new patients, they added, "...but let me talk to the vet and see if there's anything we can do." Not only did they find a way to squeeze us in, they treated us like family. ❤ I highly recommend this clinic. They actually care about the well-being of the animal.

**AVOID - NOT HELPFUL FOR ANYTHING SERIOUS** You and your pets deserve better! A lot better. This place is great for dropping in and getting a grooming or vaccinations in but establish care elsewhere for your long-term needs. I really wish I had sooner I had taken two cats and two dogs there for years (almost 5). When tragedy struck and one had an accident that required immediate help and surgery... These guys were so quick to say they were busy and did *NOT* care. They gave me some lame recommendations and shoved me out the door despite showing up there worried and when they opened. I'll never go back. I couldn't believe how much they didn't care. If you're reading this and your animal is in a lot of pain and has something serious... Don't waste your time on these overpaid groomers like I did. Get real help at an actual facility that is qualified and not too busy with mundane appointments for your loved ones. True aninal hospitals, like people hospitals, don't take appointments and are for emergent care! This place is a sham and offers no such care. This establishment is an embarrassment to their profession and should change their name as it alludes to services they don't have capacity or care to complete.

We brought our dog who was old and couldn’t walk anymore but our family put in the extra effort to make him happy while he was still alive. We came in to see about an eye infection which the eye had mucus and some blood, and after 20 minutes of waiting the vet came in and basically said nothing about his eye and harshly said “put him down he’s suffering and he doesn’t show it”. They gave basically zero info on what we even came in for. They had zero sympathy until we put our dog to sleep. I agree his time was up but the horrible way she delivered the news was just awful. They didn’t even bother to close his eyes when he died.

I've been coming here for at least 10 years. My dad came here before I did with our pets when I was younger as well. I board my dog's here as well. Highly recommend. Great service.

The service was great. I was able to get an appointment quick. Within a few days, they followed up with me to see how my dog was doing.
