How to Save Money at UrgentVet - Farmington

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Let me start by saying my dog is not your average dog and has very special requirements for vet visits/other people handling him. He has recurring ear infections that he needs to be sedated to have cleaned. Our regular vet could not get him in, and after numerous calls to other offices that weren’t willing to work with us - I found UrgentVet. We called and talked to Sabrina and I knew this was a place where he would be okay. I am so happy with the care we recieved here. If your dog has anxiety/fear like mine they do not push you at all and are completely patient and willing to work with your dogs needs. Sabrina spent all day with us helping to get my dog sedated and his ear cleaned up and taken care of. Dr. Pozzuoli was patient, kind, and informative with us and our dog. They both helped so much and made me feel at ease when this is something very hard to feel at ease about. If you’re looking for help please call them! They are amazing. Sabrina also called me today (the following day) to check up on him to see how he is doing. It’s hard to put a price on your pets needs - but they are very reasonable and tell you how much everything will be before anything happens, besides the cost of the visit itself. It is reasonably priced and much less than what I would expect for an urgent visit on a Sunday. Thank you so much Sabrina and Dr. Pozzuoli for helping Kendrick.

My cat had eaten a piece of string the other night. It had me really worried since my usual vet would have been closed at that time of day. I looked online and was very happy to see that an urgent care vet nearby was still open. They were able to see and treat my cat. They were very nice throughout the whole visit, especially knowing how distraught my husband and I were feeling. The staff were all really friendly! We didn't know how long we would need to wait for our cat to vomit up the string, but the staff is prepared and had snacks and beverages available to help give us some ease as we waited. We really appreciated how they treated our cat too. He was able to throw up the piece of string all right. If I ever need an urgent care vet again (hoping not) then I will for sure call Urgent Vet in Farmington.

I ran into the worst case scenario a few days when my dog went from what seemed to be a typical stomach ache for him to collapsing in a matter of a few short hours. We rushed him to UrgentVet and the staff met me outside to immediately begin CPR. Unfortunately, it was too late for my sweet boy but they handled the situation with so much care. A big thank you to those working that night for giving me space to grieve and say goodbye. To the staff, here are a couple of photos to remember him in a much happier state.

I was super happy with the service at this facility. They were able to diagnose and treat my little dog with expertise, compassion, and professionalism. The vet went above and beyond to care for my little yorkie and recommend a treatment. The vet communicated and kindly listened to my concerns and answered my questions. All the staff were helpful and friendly. And I loved that I could book the appointment online, and I got right in when I arrived. If you are seeking quality care for your pet, I highly recommend this facility.

Very kind and thoughtful. When your pet isn’t feeling well it’s always so nice to have people care for your pet like you do. They explained to me every step of the way how they were helping Gidget. The follow up call was so nice. I was happy to tell them that Gidget felt much better.
