How to Save Money at Grounds For Hounds Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had to come share my experience with anyone looking for the most compassionate, well educated, animal loving, amazing staff I've ever met in the veterinary industry ❤️. Yesterday I had to bring my sweet foster pup into a brand new facility, he's never been to, for what we thought was routine blood work. The staff greeted us in the parking lot, because he was so reluctant to go inside. We were treated with so much love and guidance. Timmy went with the lady's for all the exams like a good boy. Unfortunately he was unwell. His quality of life was very grim. I can't thank the Dr and her team enough for the care, the bedside manner, and all the love they gave my boy on such a hard day. 😢 Although this is a sad story. You all must know, the staff and facility of Grounds for Hounds go ABOVE AND BEYOND for you and your pets needs providing the best care possible. I will be sure to recommend this incredible clinic to anyone seeking pet care. Thank you to the staff, for holding our hand and paw, and helping sweet Tiny Tim cross rainbow bridge with the love and dignity he deserved. You are all angels 😇 in my book. I will never forget you all.

I was with my daughter & son-in-law yesterday when they had to make the difficult decision to put their precious Dooley down due to deteriorating health. Dr. McCarthy & the vet tech were absolutely amazing. They were so comforting, nice & professional. Thank you to everyone at Grounds for Hounds!!!

My little guy is 10 years old and has been super healthy is whole life. So the day he's not (today), I freak out and want to get him seen ASAP. Nicole was able to get us in within an hour. The exam fee is the most reasonable I've ever seen! Milo has a nice neck/spine injury but they set him up with some in office injections to help the pain and gave us prescriptions to take home. Thank you so much for helping us so quickly and with care. New customer for life!!!!!

The doctor and the staff, everyone is super nice and helpful. The prices are very reasonable and they genuinely take care of the your pet. My dogs were taken care of very nicely and their annual medical went very well. A condition that we were concerned about was handled very professionally as well. Absolutely recommend this place.

I recently took my large dog to Ground for Hounds vet clinic and was extremely impressed with the cleanliness of the office and the skill of the technicians. From the moment we walked through the door, it was clear that the staff takes great pride in maintaining a clean and welcoming environment. During the appointment, we saw Dr. McCarthy, who was incredibly comfortable and confident with large dogs. They took the time to listen to all of my concerns and provided clear explanations of any issues or recommendations. The entire team at the clinic was gentle and compassionate, making the experience as stress-free as possible for both me and my dog. In addition to the excellent care we received, the clinic itself was equipped with modern technology and the staff was highly skilled in using it. I have complete confidence in the team at Ground for Hounds and will definitely be returning for all of my dog's future healthcare needs. Five stars all around!
