How to Save Money at Foland Veterinary Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Mrs Foland the veterinarian was very informative, kind, understanding and supportive. Not to mention she was patient with our family during a stressful time. The tech Taylor truly has a heart and passion for animals. I greatly appreciate this office staff. The front desk staff always welcoming and caring. We are lucky our Mickey pulled through and is making progress daily!🐾❤️

I’ve been taking my cats here for years, and I can’t even begin to describe how kind the entire staff is. They’re patient, they listen, they actually care about the people AND the animals that come into their office. One small (but actually huge) example of this: My 8 year old cat, Teddy, was *basically* screaming in pain when trying to use the litterbox. I had been at work for 10 hours and didn’t realize this was happening until I walked in the door once I got off work. We took him to the ER vet in Willow Park and were met with “our computers are down, there’s nothing we can do” after we sat there for 45 minutes with my [almost dying] first child. It was midnight, there was nowhere else for me to go, and after that experience I didn’t want to step foot into another ER vet again. Foland Vet has these ‘emergency visit hours’ set up for RIGHT when they open for legitimate emergencies. I showed up at 7:45, walked in at 8am, and my cat was diagnosed with a urethra blockage in FOUR SECONDS. No computers necessary. Imagine if the ER vet had gotten an actual vet to look at my cat? He wouldn’t have spent the night in severe pain. Onto the caring for the people part - When they told me the “potential” cost, I pretty much broke down crying. I’m not rich, I’m not even middle class to be honest. I just want the absolute best for my animals, and I wasn’t going to let my cat suffer (I’d go bankrupt, I don’t care) but it was still overwhelming. Teddy spent 2 days with them, catheterized and recovering from his surgery, and the cost came out to be 1/4 of what they initially suspected. If that’s from the “oh we just come up with worst case scenario and present it to you *just in case*” or “we know how hard this is and we just wanted to help”.. I’ll never know. All I know is my cat is in perfect health almost a year later, and I could’ve lost him if I’d waited another 24 hours. My cats are my children (I don’t care how weird that sounds, I don’t have nor want any actual children so they are my children), and Teddy was the first animal I ever adopted when I moved away from home… and they saved his life. My cats will forever be permanent patients with this veterinarian. Thank you. (My four crazies, and Teddy (the solid black cat) being the center of attention as always LOL)

The staff has always been helpful. They go above and beyond and have never disappointed. Sierra handled my questions with grace and empathy. I am very appreciative of her kindness during this time with our Bruce.

2 Small Mixed Breed Dogs. We’ve been visiting Foland several years for annual health. They are so knowledgeable, kind, and compassionate with our family. Glad we have a vet like them. For the animals not just for business.
