How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Southern Winds Veterinary Services

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

I have brought my dog Rooster here a few times. Turns out on my last visit the decision of whether or not it would be best to put him to sleep needed to be made. Dr. Alsop sat down and took the time to thoroughly explain every option I had and was very caring about it. Every other staff member I came into contact with on this visit was very caring and helpful as well. Thank y'all for making a tough day a little easier

My dog needed stitches and they were reasonably priced and very well done. The staff was caring and helpful and made my dog feel at home while she was there. Would definitely recommend to a friend if you need a vet in this area.

First time being here. When I first walked in, it was a bit chaotic with only 3 patients on the waiting area. I didn't care much for the receptionist she was very dry. Definitely tell she didn't want to be there. The vet herself was very sweet she ran every test she could think of. I wasn't super happy about her not saying the price of these test. Of course they needed to be done. My bill was round up to $300. Testing for worms, parasites, a special kind of parasite. She was very caring and listened to what I had to say. I'm just glad my Oreo is ok.

We were initially happy with this vet, but after moving away, we planned to continue driving an hour once a year for our dog’s care. However, after our last conversation, it became clear that their priority is more about making money than actually helping animals. Our dog has severe allergies, and the medication they prescribed was outrageously expensive. When I found the same medication at a much cheaper price on Chewy, I requested a prescription. They told me they only allow prescriptions through their own pharmacy, which felt more like a way to ensure they get paid for another visit and more medications. It’s disappointing to see a vet clinic more interested in profit than in providing the best care for animals. Thankfully, we’ve found a new vet who truly cares about the wellbeing of pets, not just chasing dollars. I would advise staying away from this place.
