How to Save Money at Windmill Veterinary Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

New to the area and needed a new veterinarian. I booked this center through the Yourgi app (so easy and I earn rewards!) For Saturday 12/06/25. In under 24 hours I got a confirmation call from the CSR and verified details. Unfortunately I am horrible with names, but she was great! Appointment First Impressions: The clinic is in a great location and appeared to be well kept from the outside. When we walked in the place was super clean and didn't have that "vet office smell" that a lot of them tend to have. I was immediately greeted and checked in. There was a very minimal wait (maybe 5 minutes tops) for a room. The vet tech was super friendly and professional and immediately made us feel comfortable. Unfortunately there was a relief vet there that day so we didn't get to meet the regular Doctor that will be caring for our babies, but the relief vet was knowledgeable and we had a wonderful experience. I will definitely be returning for any of my veterinary needs and after a great visit, considering taking our newest addition to daycare there as well once she is old enough and fully vaccinated.

Windmill Veterinary is absolutely the best! The clinic is always spotless, the service is quick, and their love for animals shines through in every interaction—from the front desk team to the vet techs to the veterinarians themselves. I’ve been bringing my pets here for six years and wouldn’t dream of going anywhere else!

Recently moved to the area and decided to use this veterinary based on the reviews. First visit was excellent. Had to go in a second Tina and the review is based on this experience. The doctor that saw my dog - not the same as the previous one focused on labeling me as a bad owner borderline being an abusive one. My dog is the most well cared tend for animal in the world. Long story short she did not even performed the physical test that I wanted suggested a bunch of things including end of life care without an ounce of empathy. Three days later my dog still had unresolved issues - constipation- I called in for a follow up just to lear that I would be charged again ! That’s when I realized no follow up messages had been received form the veterinary for the first visit or second. I find it outrageous and maybe I was lucky with my previous vet that they would not charge for follow up and recheck on the same matter. First visit went well, I have also had questions about meds answered promptly however that second visit left me emotionally shaken. The delivery of information and the lack of care from that veterinarian was less than desirable. Others have suggested different alternatives for my dog care and I have not felt this aggravated. Needing a second look from the same place and being charged for seems like money focused . I will go back out only if extremely neccesary but will def ask no not ever be seen by that doctor again.

Me and my pup have moved around a lot and been to a lot of vets over the years; Windmill hands down is one of the best. Passionate, responsible, friendly, and caring. You say “well that’s most vets.” Windmill respects, and more importantly, is attentive to the small things, the little details that others don’t, won’t or can’t. My pup has more medical issues than average and I’m very protective. I haven’t felt peace and security leaving her in the care of another vet in a very long time. To everyone at Windmill, I thank every single one of you. From the patient care to the boarding and grooming to the communication, everything is on point. Keep up the amazing work.

Our sweet senior boy, King, was struggling with paresis in his hind legs/lower back. Sadly, we had to eventually make the decision to say goodbye to our beloved pup. Windmill Vet was extremely supportive, kind, caring, helpful, and knowledgeable from start to finish. My husband picked up our King's ashes and paw print this morning and we just had to leave a review to show our appreciation. The box is absolutely beautiful and we were so touched by the card they all personally signed for us. Windmill Vet, your team's dedication, commitment, and compassion to all of the fur babies and clients is so immensely heartwarming. You are all very special people and we are so thankful we have a clinic that loves and cares for our fur babies like they are their own. Thank you for the ongoing care that you provide to the pet and pet parent community. If you do not already use this clinic, I highly recommend you do. You will not be disappointed.
