How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Animal Medical Services

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Getting to Know Your Veterinarian

Experience

Ask whether the clinic has experience treating your specific type of pet, since care can vary between dogs, cats, and pocket pets.

Emergency Care Procedures

It’s helpful to understand how the clinic handles after-hours emergencies, including whether they provide emergency services or refer to nearby emergency hospitals.

Communication Preferences

Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.

Breed Specific Health Considerations

Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.

I had priced several vets in College Station on a dental for my 6.8 lb yorkie. The fees were around $1200.00 +. At this point I was seriously considering euthanasia because I was at the terrible crossroad of... pay rent or pet dental. Let's all be realistic! Feeling panic stricken I made the appt for a dental & was immediately impressed with Dr POHL's caring manner. When he held my little dog in his arms & Brandywine looked up at him trustingly ? I knew I'd made the right decision. There were several abscesses in the back & many teeth were extracted. He came home with pain meds & antibiotics. Brandy had a reaction with the antibiotics after several days and I took him back in the same day because he had stopped eating. Some nausea meds, change of antibiotics & Brandywine is on his way to recovery. The rainbow bridge will just have to wait ! Dr POHL saved my beloved baby. He's an amazing, caring & compassionate Veterinarian.

I love Dr. Pohl! He has taken great care of my dogs and my horse. He is kind and straight forward. I have a dog with allergies and he asked no questions when we came down from Washington and gave him the same thing he's been on instead of experimenting with other things. I will always take my animals to him if I can help it.

Dr. Pohl and staff were very kind and thorough yesterday when we brought our newly adopted cat and dog (Topaz and Freddy) in to get a medical checkup and to get them caught up on their shots. The cat had made a mess in the carrier we brought him in. Without us asking, Dr. Pohl cleaned out the carrier and put a new absorbent pad in the carrier for Topaz. He and his staff did a great job of putting the pets at ease.

Dr. Pohl and staff here are great! We had a Calf that was not feeling good and he was able to get them going again in no time at all. He does not charge an arm and a leg and is very straight with the issues. Love this place and won't take our cows anywhere else
