How to Save Money at Murphy Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had faith in this business up until these two incidents. My labrador Odie had a suture removal appointment after a sarcoma surgery, and the sutures weren't entirely removed; it's hard for me to imagine this given that they were non-dissolvable sutures and that animals can't communicate to let you know when something is poking them like we can. Second incident, I scheduled him for a bath at the same facility where his surgery had taken place, anticipating that they would be more cautious around him. Instead, he returned home with a cut underneath his eye, and their defense was that my other dogs had caused it. The main reason I keep both of my dogs together is because they are so close and Little Shizu feels so safe when Odie is with him. Shizu (yogi) gets anxious if odie is not around.. They blame "yogi who is powerless to defend himself instead of apologizing and accepting full responsibility for messing up and not caring.

Terrible place to take your family member! Do not take your dog here they will not treat them good. They will let them die.

First time going to going. Office is nice and clean. Staff is courteous and friendly. My dog isn’t nervous or scared like he would be at a few other offices we went to before. The Doc is kind, knowledgeable and very patience.

We have been taking our cat here since she was a kitten (now 5) never had an issue until she end it up diagnosed with Diabetes. This process on its own took a little longer than what I hoped but regardless we continued treatment. I want to add that throughout this process they did not help educate us nor warned us about anything and when I pushed on maybe changing her to a lower carb diet to help with her glucose I was advised not to multiple times. I myself have suffered from insulin resistance so I thought it was very strange they kept telling us not too. Fast forward and I did go against them and changed her food to a zero carb diet. She has been improving ever since, we started almost a year ago with 4 units and have officially gone down to only 1 unit. So again no thanks to them, she's gotten better. A few weeks ago we took her in to their Murphy location where they put a glucose monitor on her in a very awkward spot in between her leg and shoulder. Meaning any time she moved, walked, or jumped and laid down, she was being stabbed by the monitor's needle. This caused her to have a panic attack and we had to remove it after only 2 days (money down the drain as well a a very traumatizing experience for all of us) Recently, a couple of weeks ago, after being concerned that she might need go lower in insulin (she was still at 2 units) and had expressed that to them as well. She had a seizure throughout the night for dropping too low after her dose, we found her in a very bad state the next morning and rushed her to the vet that very morning. They did nothing. The vet blew us off, didn't answer any of our concerns, gave no advice as to what to look for and ran zero labs only berated us about her gaining weight telling us we will lose the process she's made, like THEY had anything to do with that. He said she was fine and $86 later sent us home. Our cat has not fully recovered and its been 2 weeks. We have now moved Vets, and if your pet has a long term conditions I do not recommend. Horrible bedside manner, they just want to cash in and walk out of the door in 3 minutes. (both Sachse and Murphy share vets so both places had issues)

Great front desk people. Very nice and you can tell they love pets. They made me feel at ease. The doctor seemed a little judgy but might have been just the day we went in. I’m not sure first time meeting him. But he was very knowledgeable about the health of dogs. Which all vets should be
