How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Out West Veterinary Services

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Getting to Know Your Veterinarian

Choosing a veterinarian is an important decision for pet parents. A strong vet relationship is built on trust, communication, and understanding your pet’s individual needs.

Experience

Ask whether the clinic has experience treating your specific type of pet, since care can vary between dogs, cats, and pocket pets.

Emergency Care Procedures

It’s helpful to understand how the clinic handles after-hours emergencies, including whether they provide emergency services or refer to nearby emergency hospitals.

Communication Preferences

Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.

Breed Specific Health Considerations

Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.

Facility Tour

If available, touring the clinic can help you and your pet feel more comfortable before the first visit.

I took my two cats here recently. Their annual visit went well; the staff was friendly and got us into a room promptly. They handled the cats gently enough and got them through their annual shots quickly. One cat needed to return for a tooth extraction, and I was able to entrust him to them overnight too. That made it easy and convenient for me to get him care as someone who works full-time. His recovery has gone really well. They took one diseased tooth out, and they gave him antibiotics to make sure he didn’t get sick while it healed. I brought him home, and he has been so happy-go-lucky ever since the tooth extraction. I don’t think I knew how badly the poor thing needed it! So, thank you to this team, and if you’re new to the area and looking for a vet like I was, Out West Vet is a good option.

Amazing vet. Very nice establishment and very polite and helpful staff. Got our doberman's ears cropped here and they did an amazing job. We are newer to vets in west Texas but this is by far the best one we've found. You can tell they genuinely care about your fur babies! We plan on using them for our other fur baby as well. Wonderful vet services!

Dr Swarb and his staff are excellent! We have been using them since 2012, never a bad experience! I highly recommend them and stand by them.

Left my labs with them for a few days while we went out of town. When we brought them home one of my labs cowered in the corner at feeding time. He loves to eat and is all heart so this was extremely disturbing behavior. We spoke to the vet and he had no good answers. He said he would bring it up at his staff meeting. We have our labs with Sandhills Clinic now. It just goes to show that new isn't always better. The Armstrongs at Sandhills Clinic are wonderful and their prices are very reasonable. I'm happy to report that my lab is back to his happy and lovable self but it took well over a month and a lot of love. Don't know what happened at Out West Clinic and probably never will....

Vet is too BUSY or he thought we looked too poor to pay for treatment. Didn’t diagnose her. Made us feel stupid like nothing was wrong. My dog died of tick fever. Took her when she was in the acute phase. Said nothing was wrong. Got worse. Took her to Sandhills Vet. They ran test after test to make us feel at peace. Armstrong is SO GOOD at what he does.
