How to Save Money at Midland Animal Clinic & Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My first bad experience was putting one of my dogs to sleep. The vet just tapped on her eyeballs when it was done and told us it was over. The last straw was taking my 13 year old baby because I knew something was wrong. I took him 3 times because of the amount of water he was drinking and expressed my concerns. They didn’t even run tests. Just told me he was fine. A month later I took him somewhere else and had to put him down due to kidney function. He would still be here if they had just listened to me. I’ve been coming here for years and everyone has always been friendly, but I need a vet who will listen to my concerns. I know my pets best!!

Nice clinic! Dr. Miller was very nice and answered all of my questions about my dog. Back staff was very gentle with my dog. I highly recommend them. The only negative is the receptionist she is not friendly or customer friendly she is rude and unprofessional. I was in the medical field for over 25 years and as an office manger customer edict and professionalism was key. They are the first face contact we have. They are the reason our visit is welcoming and they actually change our attitude to start. Please educate your front staff to be courteous professional and have good customer service to your patients.

Dr. Brown is the best! He truly cares about serving his patients and understands that our fur babies are family members too! I highly recommend him and I’m so thankful for his services in caring for my boys!

Extremely rude service. I am just over it. I’ve given them so many opportunities to change their attitude towards clients. I have been giving them my business for over 2 years with two different dogs. And I’m talking about the front receptionist. And it’s only one that’s rude. I understand that any job is stressful but often times, your patients are calling with concern. You being rude will not help the situation. I’m finally going to switch veterinarians which sucks because I love the doctors here but the face of their office, the front staff is so rude it may stop and turn away many people at the door. And I know I am not the first person to post/complain about this issue. I really hope they make a needed change.

Animal Clinic and Hospital I went in to Animal Clinic and Hospital on Andrews on a Friday to get all three of my dogs shots. I asked to also get the rattlesnake shot. When I made the appointment they said no problem. When I get there the vet tells me I can’t get their regular shots and the rattlesnake shot on the same day. It’s not convenient, but I felt the vet had my dogs well being in mind. No problem, the vet said come back Monday and you don’t even need an appointment. I pre paid for the shots and came back the following Monday. When I get there they tell me that I did pre pay for the shots, but there is also a $32.98 technician charge per dog and a $12.50 medical waste charge per dog. Can you believe that, $135 to give three shots I had already paid $100 for. I am definitely looking for a new vet.
