How to Save Money at Pet Doctor 911

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My girl brought her dog here whose eye was popping out and they refused her service. She said one of the ladies upfront was being rude, so when she gave her the same energy back the lady told her she had the right to refuse service. They got into a verbal altercation and this lady told her “good luck with your dog.” His eye needs to be removed and as one of the only vet places that does surgery’s they refused him and then to add salt to the wound knowing they’re one of the only ones told her good luck with your dog. She got every word thrown at her when it should’ve been something else thrown at her. We were able to take him to north 10th street animal hospital after telling them the story they were shocked and accepted him immediately even though they only go by appointment.

I never write reviews but I had to write this one… a week ago my baby started acting sick he didn’t want to eat and was really down took him to another vet and they said he was fine just a little depressed; on Sunday I was sent over here and I was really scared because of all the negative reviews people have left, but they took really good care of my Kujo they really saved his life. All the staff and I mean all of the staff were really helpful and kind, every time I called they’d have an update and even sent me pictures of him so I could see how he was doing. With all that being said I know it can be expensive but for going in on a Sunday night at 9 and having a two day stay i knew it would be, but we had credit left over and we will be able to use that for all his follow up care. I can’t thank everyone who worked with us these last couple of days enough my baby is home and he’s back to his regular self.

We had to take our cat Sammy in because he became so lethargic and could not pee. As we figured he had a urinary blockage, and needed to be treated right away. We went in in the middle of the night. And they were very kind to us. Explained everything, and they had a few emergencies ahead of us, but they still saw us in a reasonable time frame. We left our cat there several days and were able to bring him home. I was able to call for updates often and they explained everything well. Other than the price, which is expected since it's an ED for pets, all else was excellent. Our cat is alive and thriving since then.

My cat had an infection and her ovaries got infected and needed to come out. They recommended a spay. I was so scared because I had seen bad reviews but my experience was the best I’ve ever had at a vet. The techs and dr were amazing and didn’t seem to be bothered that I called every couple hours asking for updates. They even sent me pictures of my kitty to ensure she was good. The surgery was success and I got. Constant updates from them before and after. All in all the experience was awesome and totally worth the money. My baby is feeling better and I can’t say enough good things about this place. 100%recommend

I was visiting the valley with my two dogs, when both sustained severe injuries from a shock collar. The doctors were very caring and careful when it came to treating our dogs. We were immediately taken to a room and seen by a doctor with little to no wait. They were upfront about the cost before proceeding with any procedure and gave us everything we needed to care for our pets before we left. I am extremely thankful for the team members and would recommend if you aren't able to see your local veterinarian.
